Fourth Sunday in Ordinary Time Page 1 January 29, 2017 Celebrating the 100th Anniversary of Our Lady s Apparition at Fatima, Portugal 1917-2017 WHAT YOU SHOULD KNOW ABOUT FATIMA Fatima is the most prominent approved apparition of the 20th century. It became famous the world over, particular for its three-part message or "secret." Has the Vatican revealed the whole of the secret? Despite the claims of some to the contrary, yes, it has. In his theological commentary, the future Pope Benedict XVI says so twice: A careful reading of the text of the so-called third secret of Fatima, published here in its entirety long after the fact and by decision of the Holy Father, will probably prove disappointing or surprising after all the speculation it has stirred. No great mystery is revealed; nor is the future unveiled. We see the Church of the martyrs of the century which has just passed represented in a scene described in a language which is symbolic and not easy to decipher.... Thus we come finally to the third part of the secret of Fatima which for the first time is being published in its entirety [Ratzinger, MF, op. cit.]. Unless you think that the future pope--who was himself the keeper of the secret at the Congregation for the Doctrine of the Faith--was lying then the whole secret has been revealed. *** Please pray the rosary every day. Free Rosaries are available with instructions in many locations throughout the church and near the tabernacle. On 1st Saturdays we will pray the Rosary at 8:15 am other days at 8:25 am. Join us February 4th for a Holy Hour following the 9am daily mass. Each week we will have fresh flowers at Mary s shrine. If you or your parish group would like to sponsor a week please sign up at the Welcome Desk after weekend liturgies. Or sign up here: http://www.signupgenius.com/go/30e0d4cafab29a46-flowers You can provide the flowers or make a donation. Thank you to those who have already provided flowers. Also, on February 13th, at 7pm our monthly event will feature Fr. Mike Ryan speaking about Images of Mary which reflect her various roles in our lives. Father Michael G. Ryan was born in Seattle and attended St. Anne's grade school. He graduated from high school at St. Edward's Seminary in Kenmore and received a Bachelor's Degree in Philosophy from St. Thomas Seminary in Kenmore. He attended the North American College in Rome and on December 17, 1966, was ordained a priest at St. Peter's Basilica in the Vatican. Fr. Ryan has been serving at St. James Cathedral since 1988. Save the date and don t miss this opportunity. Fr. Fourth Sunday in Ordinary Time Page 2 January 29, 2017 SCHOOL MINISTRY NEWS This weekend marks the beginning of Catholic Schools Week, a nationwide celebration of the ministry of our Catholic schools. It also marks the launch of our school s strategic vision and goals for the next five years. Latiores Fines Petimus is a community s vision for how Our Lady of Fatima can continue to offer excellence in Catholic education, delivering an academically rigorous curriculum rooted in Gospel values. In the next week, please be on the lookout for a copy of the plan in your mail. Your support of this fund is a legacy gift - it continues to deliver year after year. Thank you again for your support of this parish ministry. We invite parish members to join us on Sunday, January 29, from 11:30am to 1:00pm for an open house to find out about our school and what our students are learning this year.
