Dear Friends in Christ, Today the Church celebrates the Solemnity of the Nativity of Saint John the Baptist. St. John was the herald of the Lord, Jesus Christ! Interestingly, this feast came to be celebrated in accord with the Sacred Scripture according to Luke (1:36). It was six months before the birth of the Lord (quoting John 3:30). Another interesting aspect is that from this time forward, the daylight begins to grow shorter while after the birth of Jesus, it begins to increase. It was John who prepared the way of the Lord. As it says in one of the Gospels this weekend: The child grew and became strong in spirit, and he was in the desert until the day of his manifestation to Israel. John knew what his calling was, and he lived it very well. May we be inspired by John and not only his testimony, but his courage in proclaiming coming of the Lord. Last weekend, we celebrated the marriage of two young people in our Church. Erin Elizabeth Beckman, daughter of Kevin and Christine Beckman and Kirk Thomas Willard, son of Robert and Sandra Willard were united in marriage in a ceremony here at St. Francis de Sales on Saturday, June 16. Let us pray for this couple as they begin their married life united in the Lord. May they be guided by the Holy Spirit as they now form their family! Also, let us pray for our married couples that they will be not only enlightened but strengthened by the Lord. Money continues to come in for our roof fund. As you now know, we have reached our goal. Our Emergency Roof Campaign is now officially over Thank You to Everyone who gave to this effort. We truly appreciate it! At this point, we are just awaiting final approval from the diocese in order to proceed. But, financially speaking, we are there! By the way, a question that comes about is this: what about excess funds that are collected? They will be kept for any repairs needed for our roof at St. Francis de Sales. There will be a report forthcoming about the monies spent from what we collected. All of the money for the roof will go to the roof fund that s it. We are anticipating work on the interior of the Church (damage that was done due to roof leakage). This is something that we have to work with our insurance company. But it s too premature to even think about this until our roof has been repaired hopefully very, very soon! At Divine Infant of Prague, we are facing a shortfall. As you heard Dr. Klumpp speak about this weekend, there is a little more involved in our project there. I am hoping that the people of Gulliver will step up to the plate as the people at Manistique have done. I am open to all ideas as to how to achieve this. While I do not think that we need a capital campaign like we had at St. Francis de Sales, I think that there are other way s to raise the necessary funds. Maybe we could have a second collection for a few weeks? What do you think? Please let me know your thoughts but we have to move quickly. We are so -o-o-o-o-o-o close at Gulliver I m hoping that we can get the work done there as soon as possible. With your help, we will! Vacation Bible School begins tomorrow. They have a nice program planned. I will be stopping by as much as I can. But St. Francis de Sales ** BISHOP BARAGA WORDS OF WISDOM ** Divine Infant Envelopes $ 3,167.50 Envelopes $ 375.00 Loose $ 475.00 Loose $ 68.00 Candles $ 72.00 Candles 41.80 TOTAL: $ 3,714.50 TOTAL: $ 484.80 $ 4,364.30 SFDS Roof $ 9,989.00 $ 125.00 TOTAL $ 113,421.05 TOTAL $ 18,152.10 I think that this will be a tremendous opportunity for our young folks to spend some time at Church learning more about the Bible and how it influences our lives. I think that everyone will have a great time. Last week I had to cancel the Holy Mass for three days. I will be travelling to Marquette on Tuesday, so I m going to try something: I am going to move up the Mass ½ hour to 8:30 AM just for Tuesday. I have to be on the road by 9:00 so this will a relatively short Mass. But it may be a pattern for the future if I can swing it. So please note that the Mass on Tuesday, June 26 is at 8:30 AM THIS DATE ONLY. That s it for now. Our story continues. Pray for me as I pray for you! Remember: Smile! God loves you and so do I! Choose life! ~ Fr. Ben
