Our Most Valuable Possession... Pastor Steve Apostles Creed... Becky Davis I believe in God the Father Almighty, maker of heaven and earth; And in Jesus Christ his only Son our Lord: who was conceived by the Holy Spirit, born of the Virgin Mary, suffered under Pontius Pilate, was crucified, dead, and buried; the third day he rose from the dead; he ascended into heaven, and sitteth at the right hand of God the Father Almighty; from thence he shall come to judge the quick and the dead. I believe in the Holy Spirit, the holy catholic church, the communion of saints, the forgiveness of sins, the resurrection of the body, and the life everlasting. Amen. Prayer for Illumination... Becky Davis Let us pray together. Lord, open our hearts and minds by the power of your Holy Spirit, that, as the Scriptures are read and your Word proclaimed, we may hear with joy what you say to us today. Amen Scripture... I John 3:1-7... Becky Davis The Father has loved us so much! He loved us so much that we are called children of God. And we really are his children. But the people in the world do not understand that we are God s children, because they have not known him. 2 Dear friends, now we are children of God. We have not yet been shown what we will be in the future. But we know that when Christ comes again, we will be like him. We will see him as he really is. 3 Christ is pure. And every person who has this hope in Christ keeps himself pure like Christ. 4 When a person sins, he breaks God s law. Yes, sinning is the same as living against God s law. 5 You know that Christ came to take away sins. There is no sin in Christ. 6 So the person who lives in Christ does not go on sinning. If he goes on sinning, he has never really understood Christ and has never known him. 7 Dear children, do not let any person lead you the wrong way. Christ is righteous. To be like Christ, a person must do what is right. This is the Wo rd of Go d fo r the people of Go d. Thanks be to God! Amen! Special Music... Fred and Ellen Yancey Sermon... Guarding the Heart... It means rather to find the way to God and to speak with Him, whether the heart is full or empty. Dietrich Bonhoeffer, (1906-1945) God sees hearts as we see faces. George Herbert, (1593-1633) The safest place lies in obedience to God s Word and singleness of heart. A.B. Simpson, (1843-1919) Keep your heart as you would a prisoner. Thomas Watson, (1620-1686) It is the heart that makes a person rich. One is rich or poor not according to what he has, but according to what he is. Henry Ward Beecher, (1813-1887) 4

The annual Chick n Pluckin Fundraiser has begun and will conclude Memorial weekend, Sunday, May 27 th. Easter Worship. The preaching series through the Easter season is entitled, Show the Wonder. In this series, we ll take a look at how the most impressive part of Easter is the way it s meant to shine through our lives. Series will continue through Trinity Sunday, May 27 th. Easter Bible Study. St. Augustine once said, I have never doubted the power of miracle once I experienced the miracle of a changed heart. What strikes me as just right is this angle, Become the Miracle. Over the last 2,000 years whenever we ask the question, How do we know Easter is true? the Bible has a compelling answer. God intends to take our lives and demonstrate the power of Easter through our character. This series concludes Wednesday, May 23 rd. MERCI Center Ministry Opportunities. Please remember that every third Thursday of the month the MERCI center invites volunteer opportunities. Feel welcome to serve for any amount of time between the hours of 9:00-2:00. 5
