Our Journey of Faith Continues The focus of The Wesley Journey of Faith during October will be The Sacred Word. Next Sunday, Pastor Jerry will offer a transition from Our Wesley Roots by talking about John Wesley s understanding of the Bible and its meaning for our lives. On Sunday, October 22, we will have our second special event. Pastor Jerry and Dave Christy will lead us into greater understanding of The Bible. Following the Ignite worship on Sunday mornings, Pastor Jerry will join students and other young adults for lunch and discussion based upon the questions raised by participants. Today, the group will gather at the Northside Cafe about 12:15. Lunch will be provided through our campus ministry fund. WESLEY YOUTH FUND RAISING ACTIVITIES: The Wesley Youth will once again be providing Spook Insurance for the Halloween season. What is Spook Insurance, you ask? This is insurance on your yard in case you are haunted by ghouls and goblins who like to stream toilet paper or smash pumpkins or other tomfoolery that may occur. If you are visited by such ghouls or goblins, let us know, and our Youth will come clean it up for you. The cost is $10.00. The Wesley Youth will also be doing fall yard work and cleanup. This would include raking, mowing, cleaning gutters, or any other yard work you or your neighbors would like done. The cost is $25 per yard, and the clean up date and time is Sunday, October 15, from 3-5 p.m. There are sign-up sheets for both fund raising activities in the lobby. Please prayerfully consider participating in these activities. Thank you Kellie Burgess.

CHILDREN S SUNDAY SCHOOL MUSIC: The children are off to a great start this fall, learning new music to sing for the congregation as well as their parents. Please mark the date of Sunday, October 29 th on your calendar as that is the day they will sing at the 9:00 a.m. service. The annual children s Christmas program will be Sunday, December 10 at the 9:00 a.m. service, with practice Saturday, December 9 from 10 a.m. to 12 p.m. Please mark these dates December 9 and 10 - - on your calendar. We will start practicing for the program on Sunday, November 5. Thank you for bringing your children to Sunday School at Wesley. Kellie Burgess OPPORTUNITY FOR DISCIPLESHIP: SERVE AS AN USHER OR GREETER Serving as an usher or greeter is a great way to serve your church. A warm welcome to those who come to worship is needed at every service and special event. If you would like to help, email address, and phone number. Thanks for being willing to serve. Contact Dawn Boyd at 701.772.7969 or email drboydgf@yahoo.com. Parsonage Update Our former parsonage has been sold! The sale closed earlier this month with a net receipt of just over $200,000. Those funds have been deposited in an investment account where they will remain until applied to the purchase of a new parsonage sometime in the spring. An ad hoc committee has begun reviewing Dakotas Annual Conference standards for parsonages and working with a local realtor with the eventual goal of selecting a home that will meet those standards and provide housing for our next pastor who is expected to arrive at the end of June. Anyone wishing to review the parsonage standards should contact Pastor Jerry or stop by the church office to receive a copy. Pastor Jerry has begun weekly services in the chapel at Parkwood Place on Wednesdays at 1:30. All Wesley members and friends are invited to be in attendance. Gone for the weekend? Then consider coming to Parkwood on Wednesday. 2017 Undies Sundays drive During the middle of October boxes will be available for your donations. These Sundays include: October 8, 15 and 22

Shoebox Christmas We had great success collecting shoeboxes in September last year. Shoebox Christmas has been our focus project for September again this year. But we have increased our goal from 50 to 100 boxes. Shoebox Christmas gifts are provided to children on the Spirit Lake reservation. This will be the only gift many of the children will receive. This Sunday, Mike and Libby Flowers are with us to talk about the Spirit Lake Ministry center and the impact it has on the lives of the people they serve. After the service, we will have a Christmas party. We hope you will join us for an early celebration including carols and cookies! Wrapped boxes continue to be available for you to take home and return filled. When you are shopping, please choose new, age appropriate toys. The toys must be in the original packaging. Each box should include a hat and mittens. Hand held games are great gifts for teens. Please include batteries if the game requires them. We also have tried something new this year. We will have Shoebox Christmas gift registries at Target, Walmart and Amazon, to guide and facilitate on-line shopping. Target registry: Wesley United Methodist Church Walmart registry: Pamela Whaley Wesley UMC Grand Forks Shoebox List Amazon registry: Wesley UMC Grand Forks Shoebox Chhttps://www.amazon.com/hz/wishlist/ls/2ES4XNUZVN7EK?&sort= defaultristmas Envelopes for cash donations also are on the collection table. Please put these in the offering plate or take them to the church office. If you have any questions about this project, please contact Pam Whaley at pam.thepianomom@gmail.com or 701-866-0421. We will continue to receive completed Shoeboxes and cash donations through Sunday, October 15.
