Perinton Presbyterian Church Good Morning & Welcome. The back page has information about our church worship that you may find helpful.
The Church in Worship Sunday, December 30, 2018 9:30am First Sunday after Christmas Greetings and Announcements Our Gathering Prelude:... Carols by Request Call to Worship In the stillness before the dawn, the morning stars witnessed a birth. The silence was broken by a joyful cry that echoed to poor shepherds nearby. That joyful sound still floats over hilltops and swirls through the valleys below; soars to the corners of the universe and rests in the depths of our hearts. Glory to God, the Savior is born! Glory to God, and peace on earth to all of good will. Come to the manger and bow down. Together, let us worship Christ, the Lord. Hymn:... Carols by Request Litany for Christmas Amazing God, you love us so much that you came to us as an infant. Born in a stable because there was no room at the inn. You call us to love the world as we have been loved by you. Wrapped in swaddling clothes, you slept in a manger because there was no crib. You command us to love our neighbors as ourselves. Shepherds welcomed you.
You keep calling to us to open our doors, to welcome people of every kind, house the homeless, feed the hungry, and turn over the tables in the temple. Lambs and cows, chickens and donkeys, men, women, children and angels of all kinds surrounded you. Help us create a world in which all of your children are safe and loved, affirmed, and welcomed. Dear Child of Bethlehem, as we remember the stable and the manger, the dusty roads you walked and the cross on which you died, give us the faith and courage to learn your truth and make it our own. May your story guide us and help us claim the sacredness in our own lives and stories. Help us to follow you with all of our hearts and minds and souls and strength and rejoice in your coming not only for a day or a week but each day of our lives, for you are our hope and redeemer. Carols by Request Affirmation of Faith God did not wait till the world was ready, till nations were at peace. God came when the Heavens were unsteady and prisoners cried out for release.
God did not wait for the perfect time. God came when the need was deep and great. God dined with sinners in all their grime, turned water into wine. God did not wait till hearts were pure. In joy God came to a tarnished world of sin and doubt. To a world like ours, of anguished shame, God came and God s Light would not go out. God came to a world which did not mesh; to heal its tangles, shield its scorn. In the mystery of the Word made Flesh, the Maker of the stars was born. We cannot wait till the world is sane to raise our songs with joyful voice, for to share our grief, to touch our pain, to share and delight in our joy, God came with Love: Rejoice! Rejoice! Our Dedication Presentation of Tithes and Offerings Offertory Christmas Doxology #592... What Child is This verses 1 & 3 1. What Child is this, who, laid to rest, on Mary s lap is sleeping. whom angels greet with anthems sweet while shepherds watch are keeping? This, this is Christ the King, whom shepherds guard and angels sing; haste, haste to ring him laud, the babe, the son of Mary. 3. So bring him incense, gold and myrrh: come, one and all, to own him. The King of kings salvation brings; let loving hearts enthrone him. This, this is Christ the King, whom shepherds guard and angels sing; haste, haste to ring him laud, the babe, the son of Mary.
Prayer of Dedication... May our offerings sing a new song of praise, as we marvel at your care for us, gracious God. Bless them, that they may bear witness to the light and show forth your grace and truth within these walls and beyond. We dedicate them in thanksgiving for your glorious gift of Jesus Christ. Congregational Gatherings Part of the work necessary to provide information the PNC will need to do its work (in addition to the CAT Scan results) is for the congregation to look at its history how it is affecting the present and may inform the future work of a new Installed Pastor and also as a whole congregation to consider the pastoral leadership styles and personality traits that would be the most fruitful match for Perinton Presbyterian Church. Session has scheduled two Gatherings for Janice to lead us in completing this work right after the holidays. Please mark your calendars and plan to gather in the Fellowship Hall at 9:40am on Sundays January 13 and January 20 for this important work. We need your voice, memory and perspective. If the PNC must depend only upon their own sense of what they think you are thinking their task will become difficult if not impossible. Election of Pastor Nominating Committee (PNC) Session has added Election of the PNC to the agenda of the Annual Meeting of the Congregation which will be held on Sunday, January 27, 2019, time to be announced. Please pray continually for those who will be elected to serve on the PNC and for the Installed Pastor that God is already in the process preparing to eventually move to Perinton and share ministry with us. Finance Committee Report In lieu of the weekly income report, the Finance Committee will now be including a monthly report in the bulletin. If you have any questions or comments, please contact Mark Stevens or any member of the Finance Committee. Results through November Below are the results through November of 2018. Our income was approximately $48,000 in November, which is significantly higher than normal. This, combined with slightly lower that average expenses, resulted in a further reduction of our deficit. If we factor in the pre-paid pledges received in 2017, our deficit goes down to approximately $15,000. This is a very positive change as we close out the year. Thank you to all for your support of the church.
