So we can imagine how Joseph felt when an angel suddenly told him to pack up his family and move to Egypt. But Joseph did not argue or complain. He listened and out of love he obeyed God s will. Then when danger was past, God called the Holy Family out of exile. Jesus, Mary and Joseph finally had a permanent home in Nazareth. As people of faith we understand that making a home is a work of mercy that will be well rewarded by God. We all know that no human family is perfect and yet it is often through our imperfections that we are called to be holy. We can be sure that the Holy Family had their moments of conflict and crisis as all families do. But just as they did, we can be sure that love and faith will help us survive conflicts and grow stronger because of them. The church holds the Holy Family up as a model of respect, compassion, love, and faith in family life. This week spend some time discerning how this passage relates to your family life. Recall some of the crises and conflicts you and your family have survived. Determine how your family expresses love and respect for one another. Together as a family decide what you can do to bring the qualities of the Holy Family more fully into your family s life.
