May God bless your generosity to Sacred Heart! My Dear Friends in Christ, This weekend s Gospel speaks directly to us when we feel as if we have nothing left to give. Just like the widows in First Kings and Mark s Gospel, we always have an opportunity to provide service and tribute to God. In fact, more than any gold or silver, our worship of Almighty God is a gift of inestimable worth that we can provide. What is more, as a community gathered in worship, we are able to pray more powerfully than the simple sum of our voices. In other words, the widows in Sacred Scripture this weekend invite us to consider just what we can offer God and, if we think nothing, then we are thinking wrongly! The Gospel story of the widow s generosity also provides a perfect opportunity for me to offer thanks (and to do it in advance of our civil remembrance of Thanksgiving). Thank you for all of the contributions that have already been made to our Annual Cash Appeal. To those who have not yet made a contribution, I ask you to consider doing so. As I mentioned two weekends ago, we are creating a dedicated fund for the repointing and repair of the bellower and other weathered sections of the exterior of the Church. There is no money currently in our reserves for this project we will rely upon the generosity of parishioners in order to avoid seeking a loan from the Archdiocese of New York. On this Veterans Day Weekend, we ought also be mindful of the countless women and men (many from our own community), who have offered so much in service to God and country. Regardless of one s political positions, quality care for retired members of our armed forces is a clear and present need in our society. May we be ever mindful of this reality. Yours in Christ, Wedding Banns III James Courtien & Jessica Rodrigues III Michael Kerr & Kristen Nigro I Chris DiGiorno & Carla McNulty
