Item One: FROM THE PASTOR S DESK I would like to wish you, parishioners and friends of Sacred Heart of Jesus Parish, a very blessed and Merry Christmas. May the celebration of the birth of Jesus fill your hearts and homes with His peace and love. The entire parish pastoral staff- Deacon Alex Lee, Deacon John DeBiase, Sr. Kathleen, Sr. Ellen, Vivian Wolfarth, Brandon Morel, Angelina Fusco and Georgette Lyons join me in expressing these wishes to you and your families. I look forward to seeing you at Christmas Mass! If you are traveling, please do so safely and I look forward to seeing you upon your return. MERRY CHRISTMAS! Msgr. Tom Machalski Item Two: A new set of Advent Candles were purchased for use in the Advent Wreath in our church. In the past, real wax candles were used. The new set are cylinders which are in the traditional colors- 3 purple and one rose- and are made of durable nylon which are hallow and into which an oil canister is inserted. These are cleaner in that there is no wax dripping down the side and onto the table (and the ladies that volunteer to do our church linens will love it since they will not have to struggle to remove the wax from the cloth) and as the weeks pass, the wreath does begin to dry out (even though the ladies do a great job trying to keep it moist). The Advent Candles are available to be given as a gift or in memory of a beloved deceased one for $200 each. If you are interested in giving one of the candles as a gift or in memory of someone please see Msgr. Tom. Item Three: Our choir has resumed singing at the 11:30am mass every Sunday. Please join us! We welcome all singers to worship with us. Also our Choir will be singing Christmas Carols on Christmas Eve, Monday, Dec., 24th at 11:30pm, followed by our Solemn Midnight Mass. Please come to mass early to hear the wonderful voices of our choir! PLANNING A FUNERAL LITURGY It's not uncommon for people to make prearrangements with funeral homes regarding their burial options. But have you ever thought about going a little further in your pre-planning? What about planning a funeral liturgy? Believe it or not, there have been a number of requests to do just that. So, the opportunity to learn how to plan a funeral mass and then to plan your own funeral liturgy is here. THE ADVANTAGE: You can communicate to your loved ones your preferences the scripture readings, hymns, and prayers that YOU WANT that best capture your particular beliefs. You can identify preferences for pall bearers, offertory gift bearers, scripture readers, and who it is you want to offer a eulogy. Preparing your funeral liturgy in advance can relieve your family of tremendous pressure at a time of intense emotional pain. On your part, it becomes a final gesture of love and concern offered to family and friends. If interested, please call Sister Kathleen at 718-224-5695 so that materials can be prepared. When?
