6 August 2010 Brother Knights: State Deputy Bill McCarthy and are pleased to announce the appointment of Sir Knight and Past State Deputy saias "Cy" Alba as Master of the Fourth Degree. We received notice of Cy's appointment from Vice Supreme Master Ralph Rossi earlier this afternoon. Cy will begin his two year term on September 1st. Knights of Columbus Fourth Degree Exemplification Saturday, October 23, 2010 NFORMATON FOR CANDDATES, GUESTS, AND CURRENT FOURTH DEGREE MEMBERS Location: Holiday nn Select Koger Center Conference Center 1021 Koger Center Boulevard Richmond, VA 23235-4756 804-379-3800 Eligibility: Candidates must be a Third Degree Knight and be in the Order for at least six months prior to October 23, 2010 (i.e., First Degree date must be April 23, 2010, or earlier). Candidates requiring special arrangements are to be identified when their application is submitted. Special needs includes diabetics, candidates in wheel chairs, etc. will make arrangements for them to take the Degree by observation. The Assembly must escort those with special needs to the antechamber and stay with them until they are ready to be moved into the Exemplification Room. Fees: The candidate fee is $70.00. This fee includes the candidate s banquet ticket, social baldric, Fourth Degree Pin, U.S. Flag Pin, certificate, and processing fees. All fees are to be paid to the local Assembly. Fourth Degree Dress Code: All candidates and those members attending the Exemplification must wear a black tuxedo with a flat collar formal shirt (NO RUFFLES OR WNG COLLARS), black bow tie and cummerbund, black socks and shoes (please see page 3 for more details). A candidate will not be allowed to participate in the events if there is any deviation to this dress code. Active duty Military may wear their formal dress dining uniform. Policemen and Firemen may wear their dress uniform as well. Priests: No fee is charged. Assemblies are asked to assume their cost of $60.00. All Priests (and Deacons) attending the Exemplification are invited to assist at the Mass if their schedule permits. However, they must bring their own alb and stole with them. Banquet: Cost: $46.00 per Guest ticket. The cost of additional banquet tickets is to be paid to the local Assembly. The banquet includes: Menu Choice: 10 oz. Prime Rib of Beef Au Jus Chicken Wellington Grilled Filet of Salmon Entrees include salad, rolls and butter, potatoes, vegetables, dessert, coffee, tea, Decaf, ced Tea. Page 1 of 3 7

Accomplishments in August 2010 July 31-5 August Several Potomac Assembly Members, this included GK SK Bud Powers and SK PGK Tom Fahey, who are also members of the Mt. Vernon Council helped transport several bishops who arrived at Dulles Airport and drove them to their hotel. Upon conclusion of the convention, they also transported several other bishops from their hotel back to the airport. 3-5 August. Several Assembly Officers and members of the Assembly Color Corps participated in some of the Supreme 128th Convention activities. Color Corps Commander SK PFN PGK David A. Lewis helped manned the hospitality suite. Our Captain DGK SK Richard Risdon took a long shift at the Adoration Chapel. Richard and his wife also attended the banquet. Several Potomac Assembly Members who are also members of the Mt. Vernon Council took part as members of the Honor Guard at the Basilica of the National Shrine of the mmaculate Conception. These included SK Paul R. Kayanan our Assembly Purser and DGK SK Richard Risdon, our Captain. Circa 7 August Faithful Comptroller SK Jim Bona has successfully logged into the Supreme Web Site and is ready to order needed supplies for the Assembly 18 August, our Worthy Comptroller SK Jim Bona officially submitted the request for four (4) SK to be considered Honorary Life Membership for 2011 after he had confirmed with the FS from Mt. Vernon and Ft Belvoir that they were all in good standing with their respective councils. 18 August. Additionally our Worthy Comptroller SK Jim Bona sent an email to SK Jeffery Gillen of Assembly 1578 of ND who now is at Ft. Belvoir Council 11170 and request he transfer to our Assembly. contacted the FS at Belvoir to confirm that SK Gillen is Good Standing 23 August. Budget for the new Fraternal Year was Read-n at the business meeting. Potomac Assembly Membership Directory in pdf format was distributed by email on 6 August 2010. Limited hard copes were distributed at the 23 August business meeting. Saturday 28 August 2010, Potomac Assembly Color Corps participated at the St. Louis Catholic Church 8:45 AM Special Mass in honor of the Feast Day of their patron St. Louis. (Actual Feast Day was 25 August but Fr. Mullins felt that more people would attend the mass on Saturday.). By the way, Fr. Mullins is also a 4th Degree Knight, and concelebrated the opening Day Mass at the Basilica of the National Shrine of the mmaculate Conception with approximately 100 priests, Bishops and Archbishops. Fr. Mullins recently assigned to St. Louis Parish and was recently installed as the priest Chaplain of Mount Vernon Council 5998! 13

The Potomac Assembly needs your help in promoting, reaching out, and recruiting the 3rd Degree Knights in your respective Councils to become new 4th Degree members. Once you have found a new candidate, please walk him through the following steps needed to becoming a 4th Degree Sir Knight. 1. Candidates must be a Third Degree member in good standing, having taken his 1st degree at least six months before the date he plans to take his 4th degree Exemplification. 2. Provide the candidate a Form 4 to fill out and then submit to his Council s Financial Secretary to verify the date of his First Degree and certify that he is an active member of that Council by signing and dating the Form 4. 3. The Application should then be given to our Assembly Comptroller, SK Jim Bona ASAP. All applications received before the beginning of the Assembly Business Meeting will then be Read-in and the voted on by the members at that Business Meeting. 4. A Form 4 is needed to be completed as appropriate by the applicant, reviewed and signed by the Applicant s Council Financial Secretary and forward to our Comptroller SK Jim Bona prior to the start of our September 27 business meeting.
