Transcription:

June Newsle er, 2017 Dear friends in our Lord, Let s start with the facts: We are Peace Lutheran Church; we are a congregation of the Lutheran Church - Missouri Synod; our central purpose is to provide believers and non-believers: (1) the opportunity to participate in Biblically-centered worship of and learning about God; (2) a friendly, encouraging Christian fellowship; and (3) learning opportunities to help them grow in their holy call to be agents of Godly change in their family, community and world. With that in mind, who we are as God s people tells us about our mission. Our mission is what we understand our calling to be, as the congregation of God in this place. We can state it like this: Peace Lutheran Church exists to intentionally disciple people of all ages to grow in their faith as God s holy people people who are called to praise and proclaim His Name, learn and love like Jesus Christ, and care and celebrate together in the fellowship of the Holy Spirit. So, to summarize, we are Friendly People, Growing in Christ - Called to: Praise and Proclaim, Learn and Love, Care and Celebrate in Fremont, Angola and the entire tri-state area! This happens because we are a congregation a group of people! not a building, facility, or campus (though God has blessed us with those things). We are the people of God, not a business or social agency though we do have work to do and relationships to build. That also means that wherever you go, you are Peace Lutheran Church to those around you! You praise and proclaim; you learn and love; you care and celebrate! Now we ask the old Lutheran question, What does this mean? Let s keep it simple & straightforward (KISS). Last month we looked at Praise. We said that Praise is the ongoing, joyful response directed toward God. It is within that vertical relationship where we receive life; where we live, move and have our being. This month we look at our next verb: Proclaim. Proclaim is the ongoing, joyful response of an individual Christian or group of Christians, directed toward others in order to share the grace, mercy and peace given in Jesus Christ. This is the horizontal element of our relationship. And it necessarily must come second in obedience to the First Commandment. Proclamation is best summarized in the great prophet Isaiah, chapter 61. The Spirit of the Sovereign Lord is upon me, because the Lord has anointed me to preach good news to the poor. He has sent me to bind up the brokenhearted, to proclaim freedom for the captives and release from darkness for the prisoners, to proclaim the year of the Lord s favor and the day of vengeance of our God. All these words are connotations of the word Proclaim let others know! Talk to each other! Share the good news! Even still, all creation is tasked with proclamation, not simply individuals. 1 Chronicles says it this way: Sing to the Lord, all the earth; proclaim his salvation day after day. Declare his glory among the nations, his marvelous deeds among all peoples. Proclamation also carries with it a connotation of spreading news and information. Nehemiah 8:15 uses the word this way, They should proclaim this word and spread it throughout their towns and in Jerusalem: Go out into the hill country to make booths. We should always remember that this proclamation activity first happens in worship. Paul says that As often as you eat this bread and drink this cup you proclaim the Lord s death until He comes. But it doesn t end in worship, it continues on. In Matthew 10:27, Jesus said: What I tell you in the dark, speak in the daylight; what is whispered in your ear, proclaim from the roofs! Praise is our ongoing, joyful response toward God; Proclaim is our ongoing, joyful response toward our neighbor! Colossians 1:28, We proclaim Him, admonishing and teaching everyone with all wisdom, so that we may present everyone perfect in Christ. Pastor Jeff Teeple Almighty God, direct and guide us by Your Holy Spirit. May we both plan and accomplish those things that will benefit Your Church, and glorify Your Name; though Jesus Christ, our Lord. Amen.

Celebrating Pentecost- Ten days after Jesus ascended into heaven, the Holy Spirit descended upon the Church. This means that Pentecost is 50 days after Jesus was raised from the dead on Easter. The name Pentecost is derived from the Greek word for ifty days. It is important to note that Pentecost has biblical signi icance before the New Testament. This is shown by the Jews celebrating Pentecost as the day that God gave the Ten Commandments to Moses. And in the New Testament, we read about Pentecost in the book of Acts, When the day of Pentecost arrived, they were all together in one place. And suddenly there came from heaven a sound like a mighty rushing wind, and it illed the entire house where they were sitting. And divided tongues as of ire appeared to them and rested on each one of them. And they were all illed with the Holy Spirit (Acts 2:1-4). In the third article of the Apostle s Creed we confess the Holy Spirit. And in the Small Catechism s explanation it states, I believe that I cannot by my own reason or strength believe in Jesus Christ, my Lord, or come to Him; but the Holy Spirit has called me by the Gospel, enlightened me with His gifts, sancti ied and kept me in the true faith. What a blessing the work of the Holy Spirit is to us! Without Christ sending the Holy Spirit upon the Church we would not be able to believe in Jesus Christ and have comfort in His redeeming work on the cross. I pray the Holy Spirit continue to gather, enlighten, and sanctify each and every one of us in the one true faith! In Christ, Deaconess Intern Katelyn Lower And Thou, O Holy Spirit, My comforter and guide, Grant that in Jesus merit I always may con ide, Him to the end confessing Whom I have known by faith. Give me Thy constant blessing and grant a Christian death. LSB, 689 DOVES Fun Event- DEADLINE ALREADY PAST! Preschool & Daycare at Peace Lutheran Church Nurturing Young Hearts for Christ since 1992 Dear Friends of Wee Creations: JUNE 2017 Thank you so much for everyone's help during the garage sale! It was a success as always. According to our calculations we had at least 250+ volunteer hours to help make the sale successful! Wow! We could not have done it without your help!! Thank you!! Wee Creations has had a wonderfully successful year. We have been able to share the love of Jesus with over 100 children and their families! What a blessing! Our preschool year came to an end Thursday, May 25th. We held a Spring Program & Graduation Celebration. Our children in our three older classrooms performed songs and our Pre-K children will graduate to go off to kindergarten. It is always such a special celebration and we packed the Sanctuary with 300+ people! The graduation ceremony included a slideshow highlighting our graduates complete with a little Pomp and Circumstance. Nineteen children graduated from our Pre-Kindergarten program. We were excited to recognize SIX children to go all the way through our program from baby through graduation! Out of out 19 graduates, 11 children have been part of our program since they were they were 2 years or less. What a blessing to serve these families for so many years! The end of this school year also marks the end of an era for Wee Creations. Leslie Carr has retired after serving our children for 13 years! What an amazing blessing she has been to our program. We will miss seeing her smiling face every day, but look forward to hearing about all of her retirement adventures! Keep Leslie in your prayers as she embarks on a new life chapter. One of the favorite activities in the Spring is growing butterflies and then releasing them. This year, we also grew praying mantis and lady bugs. Releasing them into the garden was an exciting adventure! What an opportunity to marvel at God s intricate creation process! The year isn t over for the Wee Creations Staff! We are looking forward to exciting summer activities. We are also looking forward to tending our garden this summer. We are so thankful that a plot is all prepared and waiting for our seeds. =) Would you like to help us finish our school year? You can help by praying for our children and their families. Pray for the love of Jesus to be forever in their hearts. Wee Creations is truly blessed by the unending support of Peace Lutheran Church and all of our members. In His Service, Sara Miller & Staff
