WORSHIP FOR THE NATIONS Jennifer: Over the last year, we ve been writing new songs with specific churches around the world in mind. This means we re pressing into God s heart for the nations, asking what he feels for his people and how we, as multiethnic and multicultural congregations, can respond to him with passion. HOPPER NU.WORSHIP Christopher: This means that we re not only translating our new songs into French and Spanish but now we re working on them in Portuguese and German. While we re not exactly fluent, we believe it s important to serve people with worship songs in their own languages. God is the God of the nations, and we should make efforts to try and internally reflect that. It s not easy for us, but it s important. TECHNOLOGY AND WORSHIP Christopher: Jennifer and I have also been inspired to use new music-making tools for the sacred call to worship God. Technology gives us even more power to serve congregations and create worship atmospheres where the Holy Spirit engages with his people. Basically, I m a total nerd and I believe that Jesus thinks that s okay. Jennifer: Those technology decisions also mean that we re able to tour with a smaller band. Having less people and equipment makes it easier to travel and less expensive for hosting churches and conferences. That means that we can serve more people more effectively for the kingdom. And we re really exited to bring these new worship songs to new audiences. 3
THE HOPPER KIDS: Judah (8), Eva (13), Levi (6), Luik (11) FAMILY BEHIND THE MUSIC In addition to being worship leaders, Christopher and Jennifer have four children who live with them in the 1000 Islands of northern New York State. Jennifer: Whenever we can, we try and take at least one of our children with us. They ve each been out of the country before their first birthday. But even when we can t take them with us, they are very aware and involved with our musical lives back home. Christopher: We have always tried to make worshipping God and serving in church natural parts of life. It s not something we do as a family, it s something we are. We try to teach them that church is not about getting something, it s about serving others. So we don t talk about the worship service or how good the message was as much as we ask them what they did for someone. Jennifer: They each have music in them, and they each play piano and like to sing. Eva, our oldest, wants to start leading worship this year. They re each really gifted and we like watching them grow in the things of God and in their own unique creativity. 4
BIO: AT A GLANCE Christopher and Jennifer have been touring as worship leaders and speakers for fifteen years throughout the United States, Europe, and Latin America. They have thirteen published albums and hundreds of copyrighted songs in circulation. Their passionate leadership, progressive musicality, and theologically rich congregational songs have opened doors for them at churches, conferences, festivals and outreach events in twenty nations. VISION FOR THE LOCAL CHURCH Christopher: Wherever we go, our biggest joy is to serve the local church. Our hearts love to encourage Christians in every nation we travel to, strengthening them in their own walks with God as well as recharging them for the mission of reaching the lost. Jennifer: Helping them recognize that God has empowered them with the Holy Spirit to reach lives right next to them is important. We all come in contact with people every day who need the love of Jesus, but sometimes we over think it and make loving people too complex. We hope to provoke God s love for the world in each church we visit. Jennifer is one of the Worship Department Heads at New Life and is also an ordained minister and a noted conference speaker. Her presentations focus on the power of prayer and fasting, intimacy with God, and worship in the secret place of the Spirit. She is a prolific songwriter, producer, and teacher. Christopher is the Associate Pastor at New Life Christian Church in Watertown, New York and serves as the Director of Multi-Campus Development. He is currently a student at Northeastern Seminary in Rochester, New York pursuing a Masters of Divinity with a concentration in Biblical Interpretation and Teaching and Preaching. He is the author of seven published books and the founder of Sprig Music Label Group. The Hoppers have four children, Eva (13), Luik (11), Judah (8), and Levi (6), and live in the 1000 Islands of the St. Lawrence River that separates the US and Canada in northern New York s State. 5
