from the Pastor s Desk... Parishioners, Families, and Friends: My Dear Brothers an Sisters in Christ, 20 + C + M + B + 18 Sadly, once again we remember the anniversary of Roe v. Wade, the horrible decision of the Supreme Court legalizing abortion in our country. Since then countless numbers of unborn babies have been killed and discarded. Let us continue to pray for an end to this barbarous act. As mentioned at Mass last weekend, Father Juhas, a former associate at St. Gregory the Great, passed away. One of the very important things that Father encouraged was the foundation of our Respect Life Committee. I am so thankful to Barb Latini and Rita Krebs and others who responded to Father s invitation. They have continued to encourage Respect for Life in our parish throughout the years. I also want to congratulate our young people who participated in the Respect Life Essay contest. Great job! See the accompanying article from the Principal of our Academy for the listing of the grade-level winners. A special thank you goes out to the ladies from our office, the members of the Society of the Sacred Heart and our Respect Life Committee who prepared and served the young people of the Institute of Christ the King from Chicago and Detroit when they visited our parish on their journey to and from the March for Life in Washington. God bless you. Please plan on attending our Corpus Christi Academy s Open House next Sunday, January 28, from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. Even if you do not have a child in school, come and see the wonderful things that are happening. May God s blessings be yours this week. Fr. Ireland Please join us at our Catholic Schools Week Open House on Sunday, January 28 from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. and meet our remarkable students and staff. You will see how the Academy is living out its mission! Please also, check out our freshly updated website at corpuschristiacad.org. The Sacred Heart of Jesus Parish Respect Life Committee sponsored the 42nd Respect Life Essay contest this year for students at CCA, it is the second year for Corpus Christi Academy. The same title as LifeWorks Ohio was used for the contest so that the students could enter TWO contests. The title of the contest this year was "... whatever you did for one of the least of My brothers, you did it for Me..."(Matt 25:40). The students in 6th, 7th and 8th grades submitted essays that were judged by three judges. The first, second and third place winners in the 6th, 7th and 8th grades received cash awards and a framed copy of their essays. There were also honorable mention certificates awarded. When a woman is facing a difficult pregnancy, the reaction of the first person she tells tends to set the tone for her whole decision-making process. How do we respond in a loving, life-affirming way for both her and her baby? Find out in What to Do When a Friend is Considering Abortion www.bit.ly/friend-considering-abortion. Christ says, If you receive a little child in My Name, you receive Me. That is why abortion is such a terrible evil, because in refusing the little child, we are refusing Christ Himself If you do not want the child I want it. Give it to me.
