He was responsible and instrumental for the implementation of Paramabikulam-Aliyaaru Irrigation project. He was also involved in the establishment of Institute of Asian Studies at Madras in 1981. Several Universities in the State of Tamil Nadu have conferred on him the degree of Doctor of Laws and Doctor of Science. He has been conferred the Indira Gandhi National Integration Award." 4. Former Governor of Karnataka, His Excellency T.N. Chaturvedi said, "Mahalingam is a proud son of India and pride of the Nation. He was born with richness of human sympathy. He was instrumental in translating and publishing books on South Indian Shaiva Philosophy in Hindi." Dr. NM' words.."i have been a Gandhian all my life and as such, I have never expected anything in return for whatever I have done." "I came in contact with NM in 1968 when I visited India. He is a real Maha Lingam (Big Lingam). He is a practical minded religious person who always sees far ahead. He is a worshipper of humanity and that is why I admire him. I consider NM as a true karmayogin, who renders service to mankind without expecting any return. I have no hesitation in saying that I see in him an equal to Rajarishi Janaka. He is a follower of Ramalinga swamigal of Vadalur. I admire everything in him. Suffice to say that he is the greatest among the great." - Swami Satchidananda. 1

From the Editor's Desk High Achievers and What they DO? My dear Readers, In the cover page of this issue, you might have read about the valuable qualities of our Arutchelvar and the encomiums paid to him. He said, "I have been a Gandhian all my life and as such, I have never expected anything in return for whatever I have done." Very true! He was one of the greatest high achievers, our country can be proud of. His life has been a big lesson for all of us, to read, emulate, adhere and implement. This year, in his memory, more than 1000 students were recognised for the scholarship, prizes, medals and outstanding performance. Rightly, a grand "Maha Mandapam" in Dravidian architectural style, portraying the lives of Arutchelvar Dr.NM, Mahathma Gandhi and saint Vallalar, is being put up at KCT campus. Photos on these events appear elsewhere in this issue. There are 3 basic things that guide us to success. They are the foundation for achievement, peace of mind, and personal satisfaction. They are so simple that we tend to forget them and in our desire for something more complicated. Success is based on the following principles which were practiced by Dr NM.. 1: Core Values. 2: Your Long-term Goals and Priorities. 3: Your Short-term Projects. 4: Your Daily Musts. These are the four important ingredients that make life worthwhile. They are the lists that high achievers keep close to their hearts and on top of their desks. They are the lists that guide their actions and inform their efforts. They may be written on simple note paper, but they are fundamental to creating and living the life we truly want. Set clear Goals when you ask employees to Innovate Sometimes leaders fail to establish guidelines for innovation because they believe that creativity is all about giving people freedom. But if you don't specify what kind of ideas the business will actually invest in, you'll end up with a lot of ideas to reject. For better results - and fewer disgruntled employees - direct your employees toward problems that are relevant to the business and tell them what kind of ideas are most likely to receive management's support. Explain the type of outcome people should aim for. For example, are you looking to increase market share or improve quality or simplify a process? And give people an indication of what a "good enough" idea is - e.g., a target year-one revenue number or a required minimum percentage for improvements. Don't forget to go over any limitations and no-go areas, and provide a time frame for creating results. 5

News from KCT.Scholarships worth Rs. 1.02 crs to 1018 students Founder's day was celebrated at KCT on 21.03.15. During the celebrations, Rs 1.02 crore worth of scholarships were given to 1018 best performing students. 224 students were also awarded Prizes/gold medals for best performance,best projects, and best ongoing student.
