And even they will agree that their journey has not been about them; but about what God has done, is doing and will continue to do through us as a congregation. Twenty four years! Under the leadership of Pastor Morgan, God has placed each of us at this church at different points along the 24-year journey with gifs, talents, abilities and re- sources that were needed for Pastor Morgan to lead Abiding Faith to be the congregation that would make a difference in this com- munity and to move us forward to the next and the next level. Each of us has been given a role to play, regardless of our age, our educa- tion, profession or economic standing.. This past January we celebrated Pastor Mor- gan and Sister Sylvia, and we celebrated God and His merciful kindnesses to Abiding Faith and each of these great families He has placed here on this corner to make a difference in this community. So, on this day we thank God for the gifts of Pastor and Sister Sylvia, for the ever-present Holy Spirit and for the privilege of being a part of this wonderful congregation called Abiding Faith that meets here in Missouri City, Texas on the corner of Fondren and Independence!! The Marquee Project 2017 The Marquee Project, which began January 1, 2017, took off with a bang, with so many our faithful and willing members as we pledged to purchase a new marquee to be positioned for our 25th Church Anniversary! What a blessing for our family to work together, as always, in unity to accomplish greater things for Abiding Faith that will glorify God and better equip our church to reach those individuals that we believe God has ordained us to reach. Our goal is $30,000.00. Individual pledges of $150 each are to be paid by June 30, 2017. These pledges can be paid in one lump sum or members were given options to pay increments of their choice. At the publishing of this newsletter pledges already honored totaled $10,910.00! What a mighty God we serve! And what a great family of unified believers. To God be the glory! We still have a way to go; and we are praying and trusting that those of you who haven t made your commitments will do so. In the Name of Jesus. He needs only a willing few. He can and will do the rest. So, we are moving forward in His Name. Pledge cards are readily available via an usher or a Marketing Team Member: Billy Polk, Rhonda Brown, Minister Booker Canty, Steven or Nicole Gee, delores scott, or our Secretary, Pamela Simmons. Welcome New Members! Be sure to personally welcome our new members and let them know that we are delighted that they are a part of our great family! The Gospel Choir Surpasses 2016-2017 Goal for New Members! Congratulations and praises to God for the success of the Gospel Choir and the addition of many new members to minister to God s people through music! They are expecting even more, Minister of Music, Harold Simmons reported. Hallelujah! Also, they are preparing for their Annual Day celebration in July, 2017, with a Grand Musical Kickoff of the Annual Day Celebration. These activities are in conjunction with our 25th Silver Church Anniversary in October, 2017. Celebrations for this event begin in June. On behalf of the Abiding Faith Family, we offer our very best wishes and warmest regards for a most successful Annual Day! To God be the glory!! ~~Contributing journalist, Harold Simmons WOMEN OF FAITH CELEBRATES CHRISTMAS!! Women of Faith s Christmas Gala, in December 2016, was a great success. It was held at Pappadeux s Seafood Kitchen, was very well attended and enjoyed by all. Our host and organizer was Jackie Shaw in cooperation with Sandra Winbush, president. Sister Shaw thanks all who participated and looks forward to another WOF celebration of Christ s Birthday next December! The Women of Faith commends Sister Shaw for the outstanding job she did with organizing the first such event, and we, likewise, look forward to another great fellowship in celebration of the birth of Christ! Great Job, Jackie Shaw! ~~Contributing journalist, Jackie Shaw!! Over in Glory Land ~~Mildred Dee Once more we put our loved one to sleep In this life we will no longer joyfully meet But over on the distant beautiful shore We will gather one day and sorrow no more No more weeping and wailing and sleepless nites Praying that pain will be gone by early light We will be joyful as we meet once more again Together one more time our family and friends. New Member Fellowship Abiding Faith officially welcomed our new members in January with the right hand of fellowship, at our New Member Fellowship. We are grateful to God that He has given us more workers for the vineyard. If you were unable to attend our fellowship, please make sure that you welcome our new family members with a good old Abiding Faith handshake and show of love. To God be the glory for the things He has done and continues to do for Abiding Faith!

Growing and Maturing along with Abiding Faith Time flies when you're having fun, or how time flies. This idiom was first recorded around 1800 but Shakespeare used a similar phrase, the swiftest hours, as they flew, as did Alexander Pope, swift fly the years. Whichever idiom we use they are both valid. These young ladies, left, Teneeka Brown, and right Krissy Edwards, were born shortly after the birth of Abiding Faith, and we recently celebrated Abiding Faith s 24 th birthday. What a pleasure it must be for our Pastor to see how these young ladies became Christians and have weathered storms (even in their young lives) and made it to this time and are still dedicated to worshipping and praising this Mighty God that we serve! Likewise, a joy for their parents, Herbert, Sr. and Rhonda Brown, and Patrick and Debbie Harper and even yes, for those of us who have watched them grow into beautiful young productive ladies! To God be the glory! Teneeka graduated from Stephen F. Austin in 2014, majoring in Health Sciences. She is now working at a charter school. Teeneka is still very much involved in the ministry of AFBC. Krissy graduated from the University of Houston in 2014, majoring in Communications. She now employed at a communications company and still is very much involved in the ministry of AFBC. CELEBRATING BLACK HISTORY Black History Month honors the contributions of African Americans to United States history. Did you know that Madam CJ Walker was America s first self-made woman to become a millionaire or that George Washington Carver was able to derive nearly 300 products from peanuts? Door-To-Door Outreach Door-to-Door Outreach The A.F.E.A.T. Ministry led the members on a door-to-door outreach this month and hung approximately 575 door hangers on doors and garages in this community in our attempt to spread the Good News of the Gospel of Jesu s Christ! We pray and trust God that our efforts as we attempt to obey Jesus command to go into the highways and byways and share the Good News of salvation through Jesus Christ, will reward those who received and Abiding Faith will be rewarded for our obedience to the call. Thanks to those seventeen (17) members who were a part of this great event! To God be the glory!! We Serve God by Serving Others (Excerpt from Rick Warren) The world defines greatness in terms of power, possessions, prestige, and position. If you can demand service from others, you ve arrived. In our me-first culture, acting like a servant is not a popular concept. Jesus, however, measured greatness in terms of service, not status. God determines your greatness by how many people you serve, not how many people serve you. While you may not be gifted for a particular task, you may be called to do it if no one who is gifted at it is around. Your primary ministry should be in the area of your shape, but your secondary service is wherever you re needed at the moment. Your shape reveals your ministry, but your servant s heart will reveal your maturity. No special talent or gift is required to stay after a meeting to pick up trash or stack chairs. Anyone can be a servant. All it requires is character. It is possible to serve in church for a lifetime without ever being a servant. You must have a servant s heart. How can you know if you have the heart of a servant? Jesus said, You can tell what they are by what they do (Matthew 7:16 CEV).
