Deacon s Meeting: 13 February 2019 PRESENT: Cathy Kirk, Kay Bishop, Mary Swope, Ann Kirschner and Jill Yaryan Ann Kirschner provided a devotion given to her by Don. The Devotion was about Love which she felt was appropriate for February and Valentine s Day. The beginning: Love cannot be fought for definition: Love would say with sincerity, I Wish You Well! Mary Swope will give devotions for the March meeting. Jill made a correction from the prior minutes. Under Communion schedule, Mary Swope helped Kay Bishop with February 3 rd Communion by Intinction and Ann Kirschner will help Jill Yaryan for March 3 rd. Ann Kirschner moved to approve the minutes from the prior meeting. Mary Swope 2 nd and motion carried to approve as amended. Mary shared a suggestion from Dr. Smith regarding Communion by Intinction. He suggested using a larger round loaf of bread to allow a wider base for people to pull their portion from. Deacon Business: The cards for birthdays and anniversaries for March will be prepared by John Bohlander and will be available, Sunday, February 17 th, for signatures by Deacons and any of the Congregation members in attendance that wish to sign. Three (3) thinking of you cards were signed by the Deacons tonight. The information for ordering will be in the March News Letter after she gets plans finalized with Rieman s Flower Shop. Hickory Creek Nursing Home: Ann will schedule a visit for April and let us know the date. She will look for Spring/Easter themed gifts to take to the residents. Mary Swope had taken 2 bags of magazines recently. Cathy Kirk also takes magazines, periodically. Ann Kirschner took flowers from a recent funeral and Kay Bishop just delivered one of the arrangements from Margaret Hurst s funeral to Hickory Creek. Both the staff and residents are so appreciative of our visits and gifts. Jill Yaryan delivered the other flower arrangement from Margaret Hurst s funeral to the Heritage House Nursing Home. The staff there was appreciative, also. 2019 March 5 Calling All Disciples

Deacon s Meeting Cont d. Fellowship Events: Cathy Kirk entertained her idea for our next Fellowship Event. She suggested having a potato bar on Sunday, March 17 th (St. Patrick s Day). Cathy has some interesting information on the history of potatoes to share. After a brief discussion, the Deacons agreed that it will be something different and fun. Sign- up sheets will be on the bulletin board to get a count for attendance and knowledge of the different toppings, salads and desserts that will be contributed for the event. Mary Swope said that we could possibly help put together the Dorkus Basket items (for the Dominican Republic mission) at this event. Another idea for a future Fellowship event was to have a Breakfast/Brunch event. We discussed having pancakes or breakfast casseroles. Mary has offered to check on different food situations and the Deacons will continue to discuss, finalize and provide the details at a later time. New Business: Prayer Concerns: Our church will be sending $100.00 in Memory of Robert Benson, Pastor Judy Fitchett s Dad, to their church in North Carolina. Marilyn Maxwell Jeanne Johnson Barbara Bowden Continue for all listed in our Sunday Bulletin and all those in our unspoken thoughts Cathy Kirk read a Benediction by Mary Luti and closed our meeting with prayer. Respectfully submitted, Jill Yaryan Next meeting: March 13, 2019 7:00 pm meeting will begin by 7:15 pm ============================================================================================================ Mark your Calendar to join us after worship at First on St. Patrick s Day, March 17 th for Food and Fellowship with our Baked Potato Bar. ============================================================================================================ Mission Activities We are once again beginning to collect items for the Thanksgiving and Christmas baskets. We will start with some of the non-food items. In March we are asking for: * dish soap * toilet paper There will be a box in the back of the sanctuary for the items. Thank you for your support of this project. 2019 March 6 Calling All Disciples

Session met Thursday, February 20. Elders Lisa Hazelrigg, Don Kirk, Fred Sess, Larry Zumkeller, and Carla Beard were present. Rev. Pat Smith from Muncie served as moderator. Elder Fred Sess opened with devotions and prayer. Treasurer Larry Zumkeller reported that the total income for the month of January was $10,716.05. Expenses totaled $8,383.80. Art Fitchett has requested that his membership be transferred to Starmount Presbyterian Church, Greensboro, North Carolina. The clerk also reported the passing of Margaret Hurst. We had 3 items of unfinished business: Session returned to the issue of permitting the use of our church facility for same-sex marriage. We discovered that the issue is more complicated than we had originally considered. Elder Don Kirk moved that we table the discussion until the April 17th meeting, and Session agreed. The clerk will contact Kristy Quinn, Stated Clerk of Presbytery, for a model of a marriage policy statement. Session voted Elder Don Kirk president of the Board of Directors/Trustees in the absence of a pastor. Presbytery advised that this variance to our bylaws was appropriate, since we don t have a pastor right now. Session considered whether we still need to meet every month. We tabled the issue until our March meeting. The Building and Grounds committee reported on 3 items: SAWS met in our Fellowship Hall. Elder Fred Sess will serve as the Fayette County Coordinator. The doors to the Fellowship Hall appear to be working correctly now. After an issue developed with the heating system, it was inspected. The entire problem was literally a loose screw. Elder Lisa Hazelrigg reported on two items for the Mission Committee. We will start collecting toilet paper and hand soap for our Thanksgiving and Christmas baskets beginning in March. We are partnering with one of the Rushville churches to participate in the Dorcas Baskets again this spring. More information will be announced soon. The Pastor Nominating Committee reported that they expect to meet with another candidate soon. Commissioner Fred Sess reported on actions taken at the last Presbytery meeting. There was no new business. Elder Zumkeller moved to adjourn, and the meeting closed with prayer. Respectfully submitted, Carla Beard 2019 March 7 Calling All Disciples
