Study Options: January 15 - April 2, 2019 1. Walking Into Freedom: Sorry, already full 2. Jesus the Game Changer: Jesus Christ has made an indelible mark on human history and He continues to do so through His followers. Yet many people do not realize that the values western democracies are built on originate in the life and teaching of Jesus - the equality of all, servant leadership, care for the poor and marginalized, to name just a few. This is a video and discussion series exploring how the life and teaching of Jesus changed the world and why it matters. 3. The Best Yes / It s Not Supposed to Be This Way: This will be two five-week studies held one after the other. The Best Yes will help you discern the option that shapes all your other choices. Having trouble deciding which situations deserve a yay and which a nay? Are you living with the stress of an underwhelmed soul? Offering Scripture-laced in sights on effective decision making, this study encourages you to be honest, imaginative, focused, trusting, and humble as you discover the role God most wants you to play. It s Not Supposed to Be This Way: Life often looks so very different than we hoped or expected. Some events may simply catch us off guard for a moment, but others shatter us completely. We feel disappointed and disillusioned, and we quietly start to wonder about the reality of God s goodness. Our disappointments can be the divine appointments our souls need to radically encounter God. This study invites us on a journey of faith and, with grit, vulnerability, and honest humor. At the end of February 2018, we were facing a projected deficit of $261,000 at September 30, 2018 fiscal year end. In May, we reached out to our support base of churches and individuals explaining that reduced guest group sizes and cancellations were factors. We were also dealing with a governmental attestation that had been attached to the Canada Summer Jobs Program, which required applications hoping to apply for a summer jobs grant to sign a statement related to sexuality and abortion in order to receive funding from the government. Because of our Christian beliefs, we could not in good conscience sign the attestation. This meant that Rivers Edge would not receive the supplementary funds we had relied on in previous years in order to hire and pay our seasonal staff. We asked you to pray that God would provide the additional support we needed to eliminate the debt and to consider donating to Rivers Edge to assist us in running our Bible Camps and meeting the cost of our operating expenses. Good News! Six months later, by the grace of God, the Camp has a projected real operating surplus of over $28,000 for the fiscal year. God blessed Rivers Edge by raising $70,000 for summer staff through an offering of $42,000 from the Keenagers and other contributions from churches and individuals. Bible Camps and Guest Groups: We saw a substantial increase in Bible Camp numbers 400 more campers came out this year, bringing our Bible Camp total to 1,255 attendees! Our Guest Group numbers and revenue also increased. These funds, combined with the money which had been raised, resulted in God answering our prayers. For the third year in a row, Rivers Edge was able to operate within its revenue. We thank the Lord for His continued faithfulness as we endeavor to serve Him well. Thank you for praying, giving financially, volunteering your time and energy, and attending our Bible Camps. It is our honor to work in partnership with you. To God be the glory; great things He has done!
