Dear Parishioners of Saint Mary s: I am sure you have noticed a few changes in the last few weeks! A Tabernacle that was once used at Sacred Heart Convent was placed in the center. Floral designs from a private donor were created and placed in the sanctuary. New Altar Cloths that reflect the Seasons of the Church have been ordered. Thanks to many parishioners and our staff, the walkway behind the sanctuary and a number of closets were cleaned and the wood panel and pews in the church are in the process of being washed and polished. As we continue to make certain updated to our magnificent Church, I wanted to inform you of a number of projects that will take place over the next few months: 1. New Light Fixtures will be installed in the Sanctuary. 2. Bushes and Trees will be removed and trimmed. 3. New Children s Room and Chapel. I hope to have the New Children s Room and Chapel opened by the end of August. The plan is to renovate the present Children s Room with a fresh coat of paint, plaster the cracks and install a new rug. Once this is complete, chairs and an altar from Sacred Heart Church will be used to furnish the new chapel. This new worship space will be used for morning Mass on Tuesdays and Thursdays. If possible, I will look into installing air-conditioning units in the windows for next summer! If anyone is interested in assisting financially with these projects, please contact me at the Parish Office. I am sure you realize that these updates are only the beginning of the necessary repairs we need to address. As you know, the major repairs on the outside of the Church will need to be addressed in order to preserve the integrity of the oldest Catholic Church south of Boston. I am in contact with the engineering department of the Archdiocese and hope to have some information to share with you in early Fall. On behalf of Father John and Father Joe, I wanted to express our appreciation to all of you for the kindness and support we have received as we begin our ministry. Yours in Christ, Fr. Lou Palmieri
