President s Message The Divine Liturgies will be held on the first and third Sundays for the months of November and December. The Sundays that Divine Liturgies will be held are November 4 and 18 and December 2 and 16, 2018. All the services begin at 10:00 a.m. Entrance to church Please use the west door off the parking lot to enter the church. The front doors will remain closed for the winter. Annual General Meeting The annual general meeting of the parish will be held on Sunday, February 3, 2019. The positions that are vacant are vice president, treasurer and assistant treasurer. The position of vice-president must be filled or I will not stay on as president. No News I have not received any response from the Metropolitan in Winnipeg regarding clergy placement. When I get the news, you will receive it too. Dates Please assist us when you are called upon to help work the bingos. Proceeds pay the utility invoices as well as repairs. s are scheduled as follows: Wednesday, November 21, 2018, Monday, December 31, 2018 and Saturday, January 26, 2019. These are all evening bingos. Volunteers are required to be at Kensington Hall at 4:30 p.m. to work the bingos. We need to help one another and any help you can give is greatly appreciated. Thank you to the volunteers that always help. Website Elaine Kluchka has been updating our website. We hope to have it more functional to advertise our events and activities. Break-in On October 24, 2018 our storage shed was broken into and our snowblower was taken. This is the third time in two years. We need to keep track of the manufacturer, model number and serial number to be given to the police if we wish to have any of our machines to be found and returned. This same information is also required to have repairs done on the appliances. In Memoriam We wish to extend our deepest sympathy to Olive Moore and her family in the loss of her niece Pearl Dubensky. May she rest in peace. Vichnaya Pamyat! Ron Kluchka, President Saint Nicholas the Wonderworker Celebrated on December 19 Saint Nicholas was a tireless defender of the Orthodox Church. In 325, at the first Ecumenical Council in Nicea, he spoke against those who believed that Jesus Christ was just an ordinary man and not the Son of God. Saint Nicholas was a miracle worker. There are many stories that depict this generosity and kindness. He is the patron saint of children, travelers and sailors. It has become a Ukrainian tradition in Canada for children to celebrate this day with a concert in his honour. Excerpt from My Icon Book, p. 47
St. Michael s Ukrainian Women s Association It is customary for St. Michael s UWAC to give annual special recognition to our new members and long serving members. On Sunday, November 18, after fellowship lunch, 6 members will be honored for their outstanding service to our ladies organization and the parish. Recognition of each member s dedication and hard work is acknowledged for every 5 years of their service. Our volunteers have been diligent weekly, filling our freezers for the Christmas Bazaar, scheduled for Saturday, December 1 st. Please support our parish that day by attending and bring family and friends with you. Besides our delectable fresh and frozen foods, the hot Ukrainian meal is also very popular.
