Happy Mother s Day On this Mother s Day, we greet all our mothers, godmothers and all women. We also greet our Pani Matkas Ann, Mary Anne, Anna & Iryna, for they are the mothers of the parish. May Our Lord bless them with good health, much happiness and many years. Mnohiya Lita! We also remember all our deceased mothers, as well as the Pani Matkas of our parish. During the 90 year history of St. Vladimir s, these women devoted their lives to the service of God, our Holy Ukrainian Orthodox Church and St. Vladimir parish. Pani Matkas of blessed memory are: Mychalina Chomicky Maria Zaparyniuk Oksana Bilan Mychalina Leschishin Cecilia Beryk Nadia Holutiak Antonina Melnyk May their memory be eternal! Vichnaya Pamyat! Today, May 11 th, marks the 11 th anniversary of Fr. Michael s ordination and the 11 th anniversary of Pani Matka Anna serving as a Pani Matka. We greet Fr. Michael and Pani Matka Anna on this very special anniversary and pray that Our Loving Lord will continue to bless them with good health as they serve the faithful of our Holy Ukrainian Orthodox Church for many years. Mnohiya Lita! Congratuations to Oleh & Natalia Mahlay and big brother, Kyrylo, on the recent birth of their second son, Mykola. We also greet grandparents, Petro & Taisa Mahlay. Mnohya Lita! I sincerely thank Fr. John & Fr. Michael for their prayers and visits during my recent hospitalization. May Our Lord bless them with everything good. - John Norka As was printed in the Sunday, May 4 th bulletin, our parish received a total of $11,500 from the estate of Antonina Skyjka. We have also been informed that 30% of the estate of Natalia & Alexander Blaskiw has been designated in their will for our St. Vladimir parish. We truly appreciate their love for our parish and pray that they are resting in Our Lord s Heavenly Kingdom. May their memory be eternal! Vichnaya Pamyat! We also encourage others to follow their example. Keep in mind that it is very important for parishioners who have no blood relatives living in the United States and who plan to leave the parish a memorial gift, to give the parish office a copy of their Last Will & Testament. By doing so, other individuals, not simply the executor, are made aware of your intentions. By taking these steps, you guarantee that your wishes will be followed. The next meeting of our Senior U.O.L. chapter will be held on Monday, May 19 th at 6:30 p.m. and will include an Appetizer Pot-Luck. New members are always welcome. 3
Adopt-a-Room St. Herman s House of Hospitality recently purchased a home to be used as transitional housing. The Transitional House will be for men who have steady income, have demonstrated six months of sobriety, and have a case worker to facilitate the movement to full independence. Men at the house sign a lease and pay rent as a stepping-stone to being fully independent again. The house will not offer permanent housing, but is only a path to independence. To facilitate the launch of the new house, St. Herman s started an adopt-a-room program, and our St. Vladimir s parish has adopted one of the rooms, as have other local parishes. The cost to completely furnish the room is $1,250. To raise the money, we are holding a 50/50 raffle. Tickets will be $10 each. Half of the money we raise will be used for furniture and paint for the room, and the other half awarded as cash prizes in a drawing. The prize pot will be divided 50/30/20 amongst the first, second, and third place winners. The drawing will be held during the coffee/social hour after the English Divine Liturgy on May 18. You do not need to be present to win. To reach the goal for the room adoption, we need to sell at least 250 tickets. Please help us ensure the success of this program. Many of our parishioners are familiar with St. Herman s and the fine work that is done there, both as a homeless shelter for men and a daily meal program for anyone in need. Please keep in mind that St. Herman s is Orthodox-based and supported by all of the Orthodox parishes in the Cleveland area. Let s make sure that St. Vladimir s is properly represented with a room at the new house. Please feel free to contact Mark Host at 440.477.9670 with any questions. Thank you for your support. Parents: Please notify the parish clergy or office if your child is graduating high school or college this year. We would like to recognize them in a future edition of the bulletin. Applications for the Brotherhood Scholarship are available for the parish clergy or office. All high school graduates who are active parishioners may apply. Our parish Ukrainian Festival is just around the corner on July 12th. Preparations have begun and a meeting of everyone interested in helping was held this past Tuesday. Plan now to help by volunteering with the preparations as well as during the day of the festival. More information will be available in future bulletins. Please notify the clergy if a family member is admitted to the hospital. Remember only the Parma Hospital notifies the clergy of any parishioners admitted and then, only if the parishioner registers as a member of St. Vladimir s. Also, parishioners who would like a home visit are asked to contact the clergy and make their wishes known. 4
