Parking Lot From Fr. Bill Over these past several weeks, I have been receiving more and more complaints about the parking lot. Some people are in the habit of parking in such a manner that the middle of the lot becomes inaccessible. That is very unfair for those who come in after and have no place to park. Over the years, I have repeatedly asked for all to be respectful of the need for each worshipper to find a parking space. So, I ask once again and, hopefully for the final time that all be respectful of others need for parking. Too many people park so they can be first out and these block others. Remember, someday the first (out) will be last. EIGHTH SUNDAY IN ORDINARY TIME Flea Market and Craft Fair Court Maplewood CDA #510 will have their Annual Flea Market on Saturday, March 29th from 9:00 AM 2:00 PM. Forward in Hope This week, at parishes across the Archdiocese of Boston, parishioners will be asked to pledge support to the 2014 Catholic Appeal, Forward in Hope. Ministries supported by the Appeal have a direct impact on the administration and evangelization efforts at St. Joseph Parish as well as at the 287 other parishes in our Archdiocese. Your generous support and participation is critical to the success of the 2014 Catholic Appeal at St. Joseph Parish and helps move us forward in hope as we seek to better embody the Gospel message in our lives. Please complete a pledge form available in the back of the Church or pledge online at BostonCatholicAppeal.org. Thank you for your prayers and support for a successful Catholic Appeal. Parish Support February 22nd & 23rd Offertory $5,079.49 Envelopes 177 Checks & Cash in envelopes $2,953.00 Loose Bills $2,104.00 Coin $ 22.49 Monthly Collection $105.00 Envelopes 8 Grand Annual Collection $5.00 Envelopes 1 Church in Latin America $12.00 Envelopes 2 Ash Wednesday Collection Ash Wednesday collection is in support of the Church in Africa and Central and Eastern Europe. Fuel, Utilities and Snow Removal Collection Next weekend, March 9/10, our annual collection to help cover some of our fuel, utility and snow removal costs over the past twelve months will be taken up at all masses. Because of this special collection, there will not be a monthly support collection in March. In regard to the costs associated with these areas of parish expenses, there was a 35% increase over the prior year. While we make strong moves to contain costs, the weather did not always comply with our attempts. For example, snow associated costs increased by 289%. These figures do not include any expenses after 31 January 2014. So costs related to the February storms are not reflected. This past year, the following costs were incurred: Fuel $12,865.92 Utilities $31,315.16 Snow & Associated costs $ 9,692.00 Total $53,873.08 These are, as we all know, very difficult economic times. It is understandable that not all may be able to contribute to this collection, but I ask all who are able to do so generously. In my nearly twelve (12) years with you in this parish, I have been constantly impressed with the generosity of so many and with the sense of pride we all share in being members of this wonderful community of faith. I am so grateful for all you are, do and contribute to the life of this great parish. Thank you! Fr. Bill

VINCENT depaul BOXES Stop, look and listen Lent, the season of the church year that s associated with repentance, begins on Ash Wednesday (March 5 this year). While some people deny themselves by giving up something for Lent, others prepare for Easter through special Bible studies or devotions. Christians observe Lent for these reasons: It causes us to STOP. Lent says, Stop and rest awhile, as well as Stop doing wrong. It tells us to LOOK. Look inward for an honest selfexamination. Look upward to see the cross of Christ offering healing and love. Look forward to the hope of the Resurrection. It tells us to LISTEN. Listen to the words of Christ. Listen to the voice of God. Listen to the winds of the Spirit of God. Stop, look and listen. These three words aren t only important for our safety in travel; they re also helpful for our journey through the 40 days of Lent.
