We have been talking about how to be better disciples of Jesus. I hope some of the concepts have helped you to deepen your love for Jesus. For those who haven t been able to join us on Tuesday nights here are the 5 areas of discussion. Putting Jesus First (Mark 8:34-35) Following the teachings of Jesus (John 8:31-32) Fruitfulness (John 15:5-8) Love for other disciples (John 13:34-35) Evangelism (Matt.28: 18-20) To be a disciple you need to more than believe, you need to follow. I don t mean there are specific steps and rituals you need to perform, but lean into the love of Jesus and follow Him as we journey toward Easter Morning. I am truly amazed at how God uses each one of us to further His plan. In the book that Debra, Pam and I are reading and studying it talks about different types of prayer. It is called Prayer, Finding the Heart s True Home, by Richard Foster. I find myself considering all the ways God works in our lives and how He pulls us toward His loving arms. He loves us even when we stray. He is always inviting us to come home. I pray this congregation will continue to seek God s will in all we do and to be disciples of Jesus. We need to share His love in our community and go where God leads us. In this year of reforming we have the opportunity to work with Pastor Galen Gallimore from Ukiah to discern the path God has in mind for us. This is a grand adventure and we need to be open to all His wondrous surprises. May God s peace surround you and God hold you gently in His loving arms. Love, Laisné

Easter Joy Jesus came to earth, To show us how to live, How to put others first, How to love and how to give. Then He set about His work, That God sent Him to do; He took our punishment on Himself; He made us clean and new. He could have saved Himself, Calling angels from above, But He chose to pay our price for sin; He paid it out of love. Our Lord died on Good Friday, But the cross did not destroy His resurrection on Easter morn That fills our hearts with joy. Now we know our earthly death, Like His, is just a rest. We'll be forever with Him In heaven, where life is best. So we live our lives for Jesus, Think of Him in all we do. Thank you Savior; Thank you Lord. Help us love like you! By Joanna Fuchs
V o l u m e 8 i s s u e 4 P ag e 3 Worship and Song Besides sermons and catechisms, Luther outlined new forms of Mass, the church service in which the Lord s Supper is celebrated. Much of the Mass had been in Latin for centuries and very few worshipers understood it. Parts of it were not in keeping with the Bible s teachings. Example: The Mass included the notion that n the Lord s Supper the priest sacrificed Jesus anew for the sins of the people. Luther changed much of this when he prepared his German Mass. This order of service kept what was good and cut what was not and was made official for Saxton churches in 1526. It allowed for a longer sermon followed by the distribution of the Lord s Supper. It also called for the pastor to chant and the choir to sing and permitted the people to sing hymns of prayer and praise. Singing was hard because there wasn t many hymns the people could sing. Therefore, Luther had to prepare new hymn books. He encouraged his friends to write words and music for new hymns but they didn t produce them fast enough so he got busy writing the new hymns. Composing words and music for hymns was nothing new for him. In 1524 he ha published a hymnal with 23 of his own hymns. Other hymn books appeared regularly after that many containing the latest works of Luther s musical pen. Luther s hymns live on to this day. Protestants throughout the world still sing the powerful stanzas of hymns such a We All Believe in One True God, From Heaven above o Earth I come, Dear Christians, One and All Rejoice, and the battle hymn of the Reformation, A Mighty Fortress Is Our God. Luther s hymns proclaim the great truths of the Christian faith, which ld a student to say, Luther did as much for the Reformation by his hymns as by his translation of the Bible. "We All Believe in One True God" by Martin Luther, 1525 1. We all believe in one true God, Who created earth and heaven, The Father, who to us in love Hath the right of children given. He both soul and body feedeth, All we need He doth provide us; He through snares and perils leadeth, Watching that no harm betide us. He careth for us day and night, All things are governed by His might. 2. We all believe in Jesus Christ, His own Son, our Lord, possessing An equal Godhead, throne, and might, Source of every grace and blessing. Born of Mary, virgin mother, By the power of the Spirit, Made true man, our elder Brother, That the lost might life inherit; Was crucified for sinful men And raised by God to life again. 3. We all confess the Holy Ghost, Who sweet grace and comfort giveth And with the Father and the Son In eternal glory liveth; Who the Church, His own creation, Keeps in unity of spirit. Here forgiveness and salvation Daily come through Jesus' merit. All flesh shall rise, and we shall be In bliss with God eternally. Amen. Text taken from The Nicene Creed
