We receive many requests for certificates of sponsorship for Baptism and Confirmation. Certificates can only be given to registered members of the parish who actively practice their faith. Members are those who regularly attend Mass and participate in and support the life of the Church. SACRAMENTS BAPTISM The Rite of Baptism is celebrated on the first Sunday of the month following the 11:00 am Mass and the third Sunday of the month at the 11:00 am liturgy, except during Lent. Parents must attend an obligatory preparation session prior to the child s birth. Arrangements for a Baptismal date are made at that session. MATRIMONY In accordance with Diocesan policy, couples wishing to be married at OLL must participate in a one-year preparation program, which includes FOCCUS, Pre-Cana, God s Plan for a Faith- Filled Marriage, and required paperwork. Please confirm the date with the Church prior to making other plans. Marriages take place on Fridays and Saturdays no Sunday weddings. SACRAMENT OF THE SICK Contact the office to arrange for this sacrament of healing. PRAYER OPPORTUNITIES PAGE 3

A NOTE FROM FATHER LEN After a number of years being the main celebrant of the sacrament of Confirmation for our parish, it was a joy to have Bishop Checchio confirm the forty-six young adults who received the sacrament on Friday, September 30. There was a bit of nervousness prior to the event because of the difference in practices that our new Bishop has instituted. Also, being one of the guinea pigs for this process didn t make it any easier. Nonetheless, everything went fine. The new practices were: the Confirmandi no longer process into the Church, they no longer wear robes (which we have done for years), each candidate sits in their own pew with their sponsor and family (as we do at OLL for First Eucharist), and the Bishop comes to each young adult and administers the Sacrament at their seat. The reason given for not processing and for no longer wearing robes, is that this is not a graduation ceremony, but a rite of passage into adult faith. Each candidate s individual pew and the Bishop coming to the candidate was done so that each family was able to personally experience their child s being confirmed, as well as making the anointing an intimate, personal experience between the Bishop and the candidate. After having experienced the revised practice, all of the aforementioned makes perfect sense. There are many individuals who need to be thanked for their contributions to this wonderful event. First we thank the Altar Servers, Eucharistic Ministers, Ushers and Choir for their time and talent. Bridget Hackman for assuring us that the Church would be decorated for the event and that the new altar cloth would be here on time. The volunteers that set up and broke down the Hall for the post-sacrament gathering. The Pansari Family, owners of LaBonboniere Bakeries, for providing a superb array of pastries (by the way, the Bishop, who does not eat sweets, loved the apple/puff pastry ones). To the catechists that walked with the candidates for a year as they prepared for this momentous day. And last, but certainly, not least, to Nina Forestiere, for researching the available resources and promoting the new program which our young people used for this year s preparation. She has given many hours of time to the kids and deserves a big round of applause. Now that Confirmation is done, we move forward with other parish activities. Upcoming are retreats for next year s First Eucharist and Confirmation classes, Adult Faith Formation Classes featuring Bishop Baron s Pivotal Players, the Bereavement program, Friday morning s Women of Grace, and our weekly Youth Faith Formation classes. One upcoming event happens this weekend, the K of C s Italian Dinner/Tribute to Sinatra program. Tickets are still available by referring to the article in today s bulletin or the parish website. As stated in the book of Ecclesiastes, There is a time for everything, and a season for every activity under the heavens.
