Dunia = world Ni = is Mviringo = round Next Sunday March 10, 2019 1st Sunday of Lent Second Collection Black, Native American, Hispanic Missions Dunia ni mviringo = the world is round. This is a common saying Eight Sunday of the Year This is the last Sunday before the season of Lent begins. Lent, as we know, is a special season to meditate on God s love for us through sending his only begotten to Son, Jesus Christ, to die for our salvation. The letter of St. Paul to Corinthians gives us a great theme of the resurrection. According to Paul, our new and risen life will be imperishable and immortal. The words of the Scripture will then come true Death is swallowed up in victory. Where, O death is your victory? Where, O death is your sting Death with all its sorrow, illness, hunger, hatred, misery, will no longer have power over human beings, because Christ's victory will wipe them out! After such a statement, we would expect Paul to invite his listeners to keep their eyes fixed on heaven. Instead, he invites them to commit themselves to this world! In certainty, all good they do will not be lost. In exact words Therefore, my beloved brothers be firm, steadfast, always fully devoted to the work of the Lord, knowing that in the Lord, knowing that in the Lord your labor is not in vain 1 Cor.15:58. May the grace of God be upon each one of us to live the life that looks forward to the resurrection first promised to us in Baptism. Estela Santos Those battling cancer The sick of or parish The newly wed couple of our parish; Steven and Bailey Our RCIA/catechumen and candidates A fruitful and transforming Lenten season The people of Venezuela, and for peace in the troubled world MyParish App PRAY FOR: It is not too late to be part of this new and exciting way of staying informed and connected to our parish family. May this new tool help you in your prayer and spiritual life. YOUTH AND FAMILY CORNER Two young sisters, Anne and Mary, were sitting at the breakfast table eating cereal. On the front of the cereal box was an advertisement that read your name in gold. A person could send in $1 along with the proof of purchase seal from the box for a pin with their name on it printed in beautiful gold letters. Both girls wanted the pin but Mary said sorry Anne, I saw it first. Besides you don t have a dollar. I m ordering the pin. Anne was angry- just because your older, you always gets your way she said. Mary threw her spoon down and ran out of the kitchen. Several weeks passed. One day a package arrived that was addressed to Mary. Mary rushed to her room to open the package. Anne was anxious to see the pin that Mary ordered but was careful not to show her excitement. Anne said in a mean voice Well, I guess they sent you your pin. Mary slowly opened the package and peaked inside the box. She said would you like to see Anne? Anne said No, I don t want to see your dumb pin. Mary left the box on her dresser and left the room. Anne just had to take a look. She opened the box and gasped. She had mixed feelings of love for her sister and shame at herself. The pin was beautiful and in four gold letters was written A-N-N-E. The lesson be selfless, generous and always willing to bless others. Adapted from Your Name in Gold Chicken Soup for The Kid s Soul; 1998 Pgs. 116-117.
