Q&A with APRIL APRIL answers questions about his life, experiences, and good memories Which words describe your personality? Strong, motivated, passionate, determined and philanthropic. Describe your strong sides: I am passionately driven. There is a fire inside of me that was ignited through a constant exposure to engineering brilliancy, specifically watching space shuttle launches. My childhood was inspired by the heroes involved in manned spaceflight, and a passion evolved from that, which has lead me through life, with every decision that I have made from my education to my ultimate career goals. Describe your weak sides: My weakest feature would have to be the intensity level at which I am dedicated to learning new things. I constantly find myself engaged in one too many activities or events, which all seem to require more of my time than originally anticipated. I feel that sometimes I take on more than I should, but the good thing about that is I now have a clear understanding of just how much is enough, and what I can and cannot handle during different times of the year. What is your marital status? Single. Do you smoke? No. Do you ride a bicycle? Sometimes. How much alcohol do you drink on average per week? 1 glass of wine. Which countries have you visited: Australia, The Bahamas, France, Mexico, United States. Describe the best holiday you have had: The best holiday I ve shared with my family have been during my winters spent in Texas. I was amazed when a sheet of snow would pour down over the city like clockwork on our way to my grandmother s house for Christmas. The pureness of the snow tied into our loved-filled home during those days, as we cooked for one another, cared, and embraced those we loved most. Memories of shining Christmas lights and warm cookies in our belly will always resonate in my mind when I think of the holiday season. Do you have any children? No. Which types of sport do you play or have played? Wrestling, cross-country running. Which other types of sports are you interested in? I have always been a dedicated golfer, and I have participated in golfing competitions since I was young. I am also an avid martial arts supporter, specifically jiu-jitsu and boxing. List any other hobbies you may have or have had: I have always been fascinated by space, that is why I am an amateur astronomer. I also enjoy anything physically challenging such as rock climbing, hiking, and running. List which musical instruments you play or have played: Piano, flute. Religion: Non-religious. How many hours of sleep do you get on an average night? 7. Do you eat healthy? Always. What do you like the most about your own country: Although we have a lot to improve upon such as equality among the masses and a sustainable clean-energy solutions the United States has always been a leader in progression. This includes the progressive way to industrialize farming in order to supply its people with food and the progressive democracy that allows people of all race, religion, gender, and age, to fight for what they believe in.

Q&A with APRIL - continued APRIL s dreams, favorites and experiences Who are your idols/heroes/heroines? One of my personal heroes is the American astronaut Christina Hammock Koch. I think that her strong presence on social media allows the general public to feel like they are following her on her journey to space in real-time. I know that for myself, the ability to see someone who looks like you (i.e. a woman pursuing a typically male-dominated career) that gives me the courage to say, I could do that too! Her dedication to the space industry is one of professionalism and integrity, two qualities that I deem inspirational. What are your goals in life? It is my goal in life to help further mankind s footprint in the solar system, specifically by becoming involved in future Mars missions. Space exploration is much more than landing a rover on the Mars, or sending another satellite to orbit the planet. It is human nature to explore, and it is what drives us. If not only to satisfy the need for exploration, then space should be for the greater benefit of mankind, to ensure the survival of our species. What were your childhood dreams: As a child, I always dreamed about becoming space-faring. This is a dream of my that has never faded, and as an adult, I am actively pursuing that dream until its fruition. As the infamous American astrophysicist Carl Sagan once said, The sky calls to us. The promise of infinite possibilities and the reality that there is more to life than life on earth call to me. Which values do you rank the highest? I value integrity, reasoning, judgement, teamwork, and resourcefulness, in that order. Which childhood experience made the biggest impression on you? I grew up exposed to a constant flow of manned rocket launches. I have spent a lot of time pondering this; we send our most qualified, highly-trained individuals on the planet into a hostile environment to conduct science. Why? To question what we humans call reality. As a child, one is taught to learn, speak, and question the world around them. But most adults seem to have lost that sense of curiosity by the time they can chose a career that which encourages them to seek those answers. The pursuit of manned spaceflight has taught me that I must never stop questioning and never stop learning, because there is a whole universe out there that contains the answer to the biggest questions of all: the mysteries of life. Which was your greatest experience or moment? The greatest moment of my life was being recognized by a highly reputable science channel for my work involving science and technology. Happiest: Any time spent involving space exploration. Funniest: I cannot name one specific moment, but I can tell you that any time spent with a dear friend is bound to be filled with uncontrollable laughter and joy. Scariest: I stepped out of my comfort zone one summer and participated in a 16 story free-fall into nothing but a net. I willingly released my harness and plummeted 130 feet for a thrill. Proudest: When I was chosen for an internship at a fastpaced, multidisciplinary, highly-technical company. Most dangerous: My most dangerous would have been completely missing out on a higher-level education due to a lack of family support. Greatest sorrow: The loss of my childhood dog. His lung was punctured and we were forced to put him down. What is your favorite color? My favorite color is blue. I like that it is rarely seen in foods, but constantly seen in nature. What is your favorite animal? I would choose to be an eagle so that I may soar above earth s terrain and witness the most beautiful sights known to man. What is your favorite kind of food? My favorite food is beef wellington. I love the way the tender filet melts between a crisp, puff pastry. What is your favorite kind of music: There is no better tune than rock and roll, which had a profound impact on American society. What is your favorite kind of car: If given the choice, I ll always opt for a convertible; there s something about the wind touching your face that keeps one s soul connected to nature. What is your favorite kind of pet: Can anything on this planet love you more than a dog? What is your favorite time of year: I love the crisp, cool autumn air and the visible seasonal change. It s as if nature is turning the page of your life for you. What is your favorite book and/or author: Cosmos by the American astrophysicist Carl Sagan. He has an incredible ability to explain very complex ideas about the world, the universe, and the cosmos in a simple way that appeals to his readers and leaves them longing for the stars. What is your favorite movie and/or director: Good Will Hunting has always resonated within my soul.
