*GET INVOLVED* A volunteer is a person who can see what others cannot see; who can feel what most do not feel. Often, such gifted persons do not think of themselves as volunteers, but as citizens - citizens in the fullest sense: partners in civilization. Anonymous Stewardship of Fatherhood Some Things I have Learned Dads Should Do by Arlyn T, Stewardship Team 1. Pray daily with your wife and children. 2. Hug and kiss your wife so much, your children no longer say, Yuck! 3. Hug your children and, when they are older, they will initiate the hug. 4. The more we say, I love you, to our wife and children, the better. 5. The less we say, When I was your age, the better. 6. Do not go to bed angry with your children or wife. 7. Especially if you have sons, let them see you cry. 8. Do not pretend you know it all, your children figured that out long ago. 9. If you are not at worship, your sons will not be at worship later in life. 10. If you can talk to your children about sex, you can talk to them about anything. 11. In whether to finish work at home or play with your children, choose the latter. 12. Do not say later to your child when you can say, now. 13. Give your children at least one hour every Saturday to do what they want. 14. Tell your children how much money you give to the work of the Lord. 15. Watch your habits; children will pick them up. 16. Whenever you can, ask your children for their opinion. 17. Seek forgiveness from God and your family; they are the ones we hurt the most. [9]

Financial Report Gifts Given Gifts Expected April $13,714 $15,285 -$1,571 Year to date $58,221 $58,340 -$119 We give thanks to God for all who are saying "Yes!" to God in their faithful generosity. Of those who made an estimate of giving for 2015, 72.5% are ahead or current and 23.6% are close to being current. From these statistics, it obviously does make a difference to make an annual review of our generosity and then commit to an amount. To God be the glory! Is there a difference between the two? Why does someone go to a Spiritual Director? When did [10]

spiritual direction develop? How does one become a Spiritual Director? These questions and more will be addressed in an upcoming presentation by Carol B and Deaconess Andrea. All are welcome to attend this question and answer session on Thu., Jun. 4 at 7:00 p.m. (top) ReNew: VBS VBS at CTL - June 22-26 from 10:00 to 12:30 (light lunch included) Calling all CTL children, friends, neighbors, grandchildren, cousins - all are welcome! With the theme "ReNew" we're going to learn more about caring for God's creation through reducing, reusing, recycling, repurposing and sharing God's love with others. See Karin K on Sunday mornings or call the church office for detailed information about VBS. Please click HERE to open and print the registration form. Children from preschool (and potty trained) through fifth grade will have opportunities for fun activities, creative projects, music, and games. They'll also hear Bible stories told by Farmer Keith Fry. CTL youth will be helping in many ways at VBS. Active CTL adult members are needed to provide willing hands and leadership during VBS. See Jeanne, our director, to volunteer or offer assistance. Watch for recycled posters with lists of items you can donate! (top) Travel with the Tolzmanns Fri., Oct. 30 Mon., Nov. 9 the Tolzmanns will be hosting a tour in Alpine Europe. All are welcome! See the brochure at church or call Jeanne for details. They've been doing this since 1999 and have had amazing adventures. Group travel isn't for everyone but for those who enjoy not having to worry about transportation, hotels, reserving tickets for exhibits and museums, restaurants, and dealing with their own luggage, this is a great way to see highlights around the world. The groups are usually comprised of people who've traveled with us many times, some who are friends new to group travel, some who hear about the trip from others and decide to give it a try, and occasionally a [11]

Tolzmann relative or two. Group members come from all over the US to meet us at O'Hare for departure. Questions? Give us a call. 224-535-9261 Advent Devotional Watch for the choices you will have to contribute to the CTL Advent Devotional for 2015, starting Sun., Jun. 7. Based on the lectionary, you may select a scripture verse of your choice to use for writing your own devotion. Each devotion is intended to be short so don't worry about writing a tome! Sign-up will be set up in the gathering area. Prayerfully consider joining in this spiritual growth opportunity that can be shared among us. Questions? Ask Carol B or any E-Team member. (Top) Shop at Smile.Amazon.com CTL earns 0.5% of your purchase! On your first visit to AmazonSmile, (http://smile.amazon.com), you need to select a charitable organization to receive donations from eligible purchases before you begin shopping. They will remember your selection, and then every eligible purchase you make on Amazon will result in an automatic donation! A simple way to support CTL! It s Coming God s Work God s work. Our hands. Sunday is an opportunity to celebrate who we are as the Evangelical Lutheran Church in America one church, freed in Christ to serve and love our neighbor. The date for the 2015 dedicated day of service is Sun., Sept. 13. Mark your calendar today! In speaking about his congregation s 2014 experience, a 10-year-old member from St. Andrew Lutheran Church in Whittier, Calif., put it best: It feels good to give. According to Terri Roberston, youth and family minister at St. Andrew, God s work. Our hands. Sunday offers his congregation a unique way to see the face of God. We look forward to doing this work together Sun., Sept. 13. Visit www.elca.org/dayofservice for more information. (top) [12]

Scrip Fundraising Simply return an order form with your check to the church on Sunday. You will receive a new order form each week. You may pick up your order the following Sunday at the church. We encourage you to take advantage of the wonderful benefits offered by this on-going fundraiser. If you have questions, please talk to Mary N 847-828-0027 or Dorothy G 847-888-4484. Services at Rosewood We have scheduled Rosewood worship services up through June. Next service is Fri., Jun. 26. Pastor very much appreciates those of us who are able to come & help with leading the services. It means a lot to the residents. Please let Pastor know which Fridays you might want to help, so we can work out a schedule. All services will be at 10 a.m., with leaders gathering about 9:40 a.m. to prepare. (top) Kids Hope USA CTL mentors and children met in May for the last time this school year. To celebrate our third year at Hillcrest and the end of a great year we had a party at school. Mentors, prayer partners, kids, parents, siblings, teachers, social worker, and principal were the guests. Pizza, popcorn, and desserts were served. The kids were excited for weeks prior to the party! They know which kids are part of Kids Hope but they don't always get to see each other in a party atmosphere. A wonderful time was had by ALL! Although there are no mentoring sessions during the summer, prayers continue. In September, mentors will once again meet their mentees for one on one sessions that have been proven to have a big impact on the lives of these special children. Please prayerfully consider becoming involved in this vital CTL ministry as a mentor or prayer partner. Training and support are provided by KH CTL directors Jeanne T and Carri N. [13]

Bridge Group Dinner Schedule The Bridge Group is for people who would like a chance to meet with other single adults at various area restaurants. The Sunday afternoon dinner is a time for conversation, laughter, and support. All singles are invited to join us on the first and third Sundays at 4:00 p.m. Contact person Grace D. (top) June 7 Culver s, Randall Rd. June 21 Salernos on the Fox, St. Charles July 5 Art & Alma s, Burlington Bound and Ungagged (a book club) Bound and Ungagged is reading the book "A Man Called Ove" by Fredrik Backman for Sat., Jun. 6. The book club meets at Colonial Cafe on McLean Blvd. at 8:00 a.m. Come join us for fellowship, discussion and a delicious breakfast. If you have any questions or would like to suggest a book that you have read and think the book club would enjoy reading, please contact Carol H.(top) Prayerful Humor Pie Manners In a country home that seldom had guests, the young son was eager to help his mother after his father appeared with two dinner guests from the office. When the dinner was nearly over, the boy went to the kitchen and proudly carried in the first piece of apple pie, giving it to his father, who passed it to a guest. The boy came in with a second piece of pie and again watched his father give it to a guest. This was too much for the boy, who said, "It's no use, Dad. The pieces are all the same size." [14]

Hooks and Needles (Prayer Shawl and Baptismal Blanket Ministry) As you select yarn for a new prayer shawl, consider that we are in need of colors that are bright, lively, and cheerful colors that will help dispel the gloom! We are getting very low on shawls, so please keep crocheting and knitting. For crafters interested in making a prayer shawl, there are now "unkits" available next to the Dress-A-Girl kits in the CTL entry area. These kits include instructions, a card, and everything else you will need (except for the knitting needles/crochet hook) to complete a prayer shawl. Thanks to some wonderful angels, we are able to provide kits with yarn. *LEARNING* Adult Study Groups B. & B.: Bible and Brew NO MEETING JUNE 2 Bible and Brew meets at 7:00 p.m. at the Village Squire, Dundee. We gather for an hour of fellowship and fun as we discuss our faith and how it affects our daily lives. The topics are wide-ranging and interesting! So, come grab a beverage or order a meal (Tuesdays have half-price burgers!) and grow in faith with one another. (top) Morning Bible Study Join us for a lectionary study every Wednesday morning from 10:00 a.m. 11:00 a.m. at CTL. We will not meet June 3. Pastor Keith guides us through the scriptures for the upcoming Sunday. It is an opportunity for learning and becoming prepared to hear, in a new way, the readings at worship. Questions? Please ask Pastor Keith, Henrietta N, or Carol B. (top) [15]

Adult Forum, June 2015 Please join us for Adult Forum at 11 a.m. in June. We will discuss a DVD series called Animate, a program in which we will look at some basic spiritual practices of our faith. Our Animate topics in June will include: Food, Community, Worship, and Service. Coming up in July, we will begin an exciting series by Pr. David Lose called Making Sense of Scripture. Please join us each Sunday after worship for a lively discussion about contemporary issues and about what we Christians believe. Questions? Call Jan G at 847-888-9501.
