Spirt of Life Spirt of Life will be at Zion Church on Sunday, Oct. 23rd to perform their Holiday Show. Mark your calendars so you do not miss this event. 3 rd Annual Cancer Kids 5K Run/Walk Saturday Sept 17, 2016 Trio Grille 101 Franks Rd Marengo, IL 4 PM Race CK/5k is a fundraiser to help families in our Community who are affected by Childhood Cancer. September is Childhood Cancer Awareness month. The money raised will be split into thirds. This year you will be running for William Nichols who was diagnosed with a brain tumor, and McKai Malooley who was diagnosed with a very aggressive form of cancer in his leg called Rhabdomyosarcoma, and the remaining funds will go towards a Childhood Cancer organization of both families choosing. www.ck5k.org Registration: Early registration (ends Sept 4) $25 $20 for students and/or a group of at least 8 After Sept 4 $35 (race shirts limited) More info call Cecily Heuser 815-572-1313 or Val Keller 815-529-0811 Or on Facebook at www.facebook.com/ CancerKids5K The Boar s Head The Boar s Head Committee is looking for people interested in assisting on the committee in a variety of areas. Costumes, props, production, cast coordination, publicity, ticket, and reception planning and working are some of the areas looking for additional help and leadership. If interested please call the church office or come to the meeting on Monday, September 19th at 7:15 PM. Did You Know Children who regularly eat meals with their families tend to do better in school and avoid risky behavior. Eating dinner together is great, but other meals count, too. If you work at night, maybe you could make time for a family breakfast. Or on a weekend, try a picnic lunch! Sunday School Resumes Sept. 11th All children age 3 through high school are invited to Sunday School on Sunday mornings. Grab a friend and join us for some fun. 9:00 AM Cookies & Punch 9:15 AM Opening Songs 9:30 AM Sunday School Ink Cartridges Zion Lutheran School is accepting used/empty ink cartridges. Zion recycles these cartridges and uses the money from recycling to purchases office and school supplies. Staples gives us $2.00 in credit for each cartridge. Please drop off cartridges in the office. Trust in the Lord with all your heart, and do not lean on your own understanding. In all your ways acknowledge him, and he will make straight your paths. Lego Club We are excited and look forward to having a lot of fun building and creating Lego masterpieces! There will be challenges as well as free building time. Are you ready to build the tallest building, the coolest car, or a house that holds the most dimes? Get ready! Get set! Lego!! Lego club is open to students in grades 1st through 3rd. We will meet on the third Tuesday of every month from 2:45-4:00 PM in the multipurpose room. The first meeting of the year will be Tuesday, September 20th. Position Opening BACKUP is looking for help for after school hours. Hours and days may very but normal times are 2:30 PM until 5:00 or 6:00 PM. This position involves supervision of children of different ages. Applicants must be 18 and a high school graduate. Emergency Response Drill Saturday, September 10th Zion staff members will participate in the Marengo High School Emergency Response Drill. Zion Church and School will be The Reunification Site for Drill participants. We look forward to participating in this important practice for our community. Excellent Attendance Being in school every day means your child won t miss out on learning. Try to schedule appointments and family trips outside of school hours. If he asks to stay home just because, remind him of what he ll miss, such as his reading group or PE class. Explain that he can be absent only if he s sick or if there s a family emergency. Nationwide Prayer Event Zion Lutheran Church is hosting a different kind of Girls Night Out. Friday, Sept 23 6:00-9:00 PM. Zion Lutheran Church A free women s prayer simulcast will take place at Zion Lutheran Church. On this night thousands of women will gather in thousands of locations seeking God together. Women of God, let s join our hearts and hands and cry out to the Lord for our children, our families, our churches our nation and out communities. We will be sharing the love of Jesus by making things for people, gathering items (such as socks), and praying for them. This group will be a servant group geared towards our youngest servants. This group will be led by Mrs. Lowing (3rd grade) and Mrs. Bassuener (K) and Mrs. Hendricks (4 th ). First meeting Wednesday, Sept. 21st More information and permissions slips will be coming home Friday. September 15th is the first All Pro Dad s breakfast of the new school year.
