Via Latina 22 News From the General Administration - Society of Mary MARIANISTARIANIST WORLDORLD DAY OF PRAYERRAYER Issue # 196 November 2010 O n October 10, 2010, Marianists from around the world gathered together to pray for each other, for our world and in thanksgiving for all that we have been given. The particular common intention this year was solidarity with our fellow Marianists in Haiti. The Shrine of Our Lady of Perpetual Help in Port-au Prince served as the focus. Here are some photos that we have received from various events: In India, the scholasticate, aspirancy, and REDS communities at Deepahalli celebrated the Marianist World Day of Prayer. The celebration began with the Eucharist. Fr. Hans Eidenberger, regional superior of the Region Austria-Germany, was the main celebrant. The members of the Family of Mary then had a rosary procession that began at the Shrine of the Black Madonna. In Haiti, about 200 people gathered for prayer with the theme: Mary, A Way for a New Evangelization. At the shrine of Our lady of Perpetual Help, the Marianist Family celebrated the Eucharist, shared reflections about our vocation and the Marianist charism, shared a meal and celebrated with joy the blessings of the day. In Brazil, young and old people together took signs, instruments, photos of our founders, and, above all, their prayers, on a pilgrimage of prayer. At Forbach (Moselle) in northeast France, participants prayed vespers together in the Chapel of the Holy Cross. In Winnipeg, they observed the day with a mini-retreat and Eucharist.

Page 3 MT.. ST. S J. JOHNOHN 100TH ANNIVERSARYNNIVERSARY CELEBRATIONELEBRATION n a letter commemorating the 100th Anniversary of the purchase of the Mt. St. John Property in Dayton, I Ohio (USA), Fr. Manuel Cortes, SM, offered congratulations and greetings. Here is an excerpt from this letter: In celebrating this milestone, we do not only celebrate the passage of time. Surely, 100 years is a long time, and it is significant in itself that during every year of its existence Mt. St. John has been a center for Marianist formation. Yet, our celebration goes beyond this, and our joy finds its source in a much more profound place in the very generation of life and faith. Here, at this place, the spiritual life, strong faith and lasting religious commitment have all been cultivated, nourished, and shared. This has resulted in generations of Mt. St. John veterans who have offered, and continue to offer, these gifts, and much more, even to the ends of the earth! Brothers working the fields at MSJ in the early part of the 20th century. Those who have participated over the years often commented on how experiencing this renewal program together with the Marists is a wonderful experience of personal growth, sharing, and fraternity. Eliseo Pérez, SM (MA), just completed a program which began in August. During the same program, Fr. Antonio Pacheco, SM (MA), served as chaplain. Currently, Bros. Page 5 FOROR YOUROUR PRAYERSRAYERS Mrs. Therese HAURY, lay resident of Abidjan, Ivory Coast who works with the poor, has breast cancer. I request your prayers for her through the intercession of Blessed Chaminade. Intention proposed by Brother Dominique LeBrenn, District Superior of Ivory Coast. From Roger and Marie-Claire BAUMERT, members of the Fraternités Marianistes: We have a prayer intention to submit to the Marianists and their Founders: our eldest daughter, Florence, age 33, has recently been diagnosed with chronic ankylosing spondylitis. In the long term she runs the risk of paralysis and is taking it very hard. At present there is no treatment that offers hope for a cure, merely a cortisone therapy to assuage the pain. But now the corticosteroids are having side effects upon her health, which she is taking poorly. So we are asking the Marianist Family to pray to Father Chaminade who, we believe, will obtain through his intercession with the Father the cure of our daughter. Please pray through the intercession of Blessed Chaminade for the healing of Kathy McGuinness, 61 years old, who is battling cancer. Intention proposed by Fr. Martin Solma, SM, Provincial, Province of the USA. PRAYER FOR THE NEW MARIANIST PROVINCE OF SPAIN. O Lord, our God: we ask that your Spirit inspire and that Mary, our mother, accompany the birth of the new Province of Spain. And grant to us, Marianist religious, the generosity to bring the strength, availability, responsibility and vision that our new Marianist undertaking demands of us. AMEN.
