MAKING THE MOST OF YOUR OPPORTUNITY IN 2017 Jan 2017 Vol. XXV Issue I Surely you have had numerous greetings of Happy New Year! And I expect you have extended such words to others. It's an interesting thing how we conclude one year and begin another with great expectations. Generally we go to bed on December 31, then wake up on January 1, and in many ways it's practically like any other transition from one day to the next. However, there is more to it than having to remember that we are in a different year than when we went to bed. Some make resolutions--most of which are soon broken or forgotten completely. Better than resolutions, there is the opportunity to begin a new year with a new commitment to seek the Lord for true spiritual renewal and awakening. Jeremiah recorded the Lord's words: "'You will seek Me and find Me when you seek Me with all your heart. I will be found by you,' declares the Lord" (29:13-14). The Lord told Isaiah: "Behold, I will create new heavens and a new earth" (65:17). The apostle John, while exiled on the Isle of Patmos, saw that creation during the Revelation: "Then I saw a new heaven and a new earth, for the first heaven and the first earth had passed away..." (21:1). Then John heard from "the One who was seated on the throne..."i am making everything new!" (21:5). The way we can experience the newness of fresh opportunities of spiritual renewal is to walk in fellowship and meaningful relationship with the One who makes all things new! May it be true for us all in 2017! I thank the Lord for the joy of making this part of the journey with you! Begin the music, strike the tambourine, play the melodious harp and lyre. Sound the ram s horn at the New Moon, and when the moon is full, on the day of our Feast; this is a decree for Israel, an ordinance of the God of Jacob. Psalm 81:1-4 Israel s holidays reminded the nation of God s great miracles. They were times of rejoicing and times to renew one s strength for life s daily struggles. Remember the spiritual origins of these special days, and use them as opportunities to worship God for his goodness to you, your family, and your nation.
