Welcome to the Family Zoe Mae Orick Ellie Lou Brune Calab Phelps 4 th Sunday in Lent March 5 & 6, 2016

Ebenezer Lutheran Church Port Hudson The Lutheran Church Missouri Synod 9100 Highway YY Leslie, Missouri Parsonage 573-459-6432 Church 573-459-6431 Rev. William F. Zastrow, Pastor Mary Sprick, Secretary ebenezerlutheran@hotmail.com ebenezerlutheranchurch.wordpress.com AS WE GATHER: This Sunday, sometimes call Rejoice Sunday, lifts the somberness of Lent a bit. The reason is all that God has already done for us in the past. The reading from Isaiah looks ahead to our day, when we know that the Lord has become my salvation. We have known what David rejoices over in the psalm: that when he confessed his transgressions, the Lord forgave the iniquity of my sin. God s forgiveness has reconciled us through Christ as completely, Paul writes, that it is as if the old has passed away; behold, the new has come. We can be confident that each day brings us closer to our last on earth, when, like the prodigal son, we shall hear our heavenly Father s welcome home. So, even in Lent, rejoice! PRAYER BEFORE WORSHIP: Almighty God, our heavenly Father, Your mercies are new every morning. Though we deserve only punishment, You receive us as Your children and provide for all our needs of body and soul. Fill us with such thanks, praise, and joy, that we may be Christ s ambassadors of reconciliation in all our daily relationships; through Jesus Christ, Your Son, our Lord, who lives and reigns with You and the Holy Spirit, one God, now and forever. Amen. HYMN Father Welcomes AGPS 95 2

Refrain: Father welcomes all his children to his family through his Son. Father giving his salvation, life forever has been won. Little children, come to me, for my kingdom is of these; life and love I have to give, mercy for your sin. (Refrain) In the water, in the word, in his promise be assured: those who are baptized and believe shall be born again. (Refrain) Let us daily die to sin, let us daily rise with him walk in the love of Christ our Lord, live in the peace of God. (Refrain) Pastor: People: In the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit. Amen. HOLY BAPTISM page 199 of LW Saturday Zoe Mae Orick Sunday Ellie Lou Brune CONFESSION AND ABSOLUTION Pastor: People: Almighty God, heavenly Father, we confess that we are by nature sinful. We have failed to love You with our whole heart; 3

we have not loved our neighbors as ourselves. We have considered ourselves better than others; we have expected You to bless us in all things. For the sake of Jesus Christ, Your Son and our Lord, forgive us, and by the power of Your Holy Spirit cleanse our hearts and minds that we might walk in Your ways to the glory of Your holy name. Amen. Pastor: People: Christ Jesus, true man and true God, was obedient to His Father in all things and in our place. By His death He destroyed death, and by His rising opened eternal life to all who trust in Him for forgiveness. As a called and ordained servant of Christ, and by His authority, I therefore forgive you all your sins in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit. May God strengthen you in your Lenten journey toward the joys of Easter. Amen. On Friday, March 18 th at 7:00 PM, Mike will present his Faith, Hope and Love presentation at this free performance. During the course of the evening he will share a Faith image as he walks through and illustrates Bible stories of faith. The Hope message he shares, shows a plant growing from a seed to a fruit bearing tree. The final painting of the evening will be the Face of Love as Mike walks us through Christ s demonstration of love to man. Mike and his team of artists have performed around the world. He has been on the main stage for many of the National Youth Gatherings over the last ten years or more. 7

Through their ministry they share, In becoming a vessel for God we allow Him to use our passions and abilities to bring more people into a growing personal relationship with their Savior, Jesus Christ. For Jesus Painter Ministries our gift and our passion is art. Therefore, we strive to use our artistic abilities to glorify God and advance His Kingdom. The event has been planned purposely for the week before Holy Week as an opportunity for all who join us to bring friends and family members who may have fallen away from the church. We pray the evening s performance will provide a wonderful segue to invite these friends back to their church the following week. All congregations and youth groups are invited to drive to Washington for an enjoyable, artistic and inspiring performance.
