P a g e 2 T h e C o r r e s p o n d e n t From the Principal s Desk... Today is both National Day of Prayer and Ascension Day. Your children began the day with chapel and prayed together throughout the day for our nation, families, and church. I hope you found some time today to spend in prayer, too. Here is the 2016 National Prayer that we prayed today at 11am: Dear heavenly Father, we come to You today as a humble people desperate for Your intervention on behalf of our beloved nation. First, we thank You for all the blessings You have bestowed on our land, blessings that have allowed us to bring so much good and benefit to not only our own citizens but also to the rest of the world. The very ideals upon which this country was founded were based on biblical truths, no matter how some try to rewrite history to deny that very fact today. This is why our hearts are so broken over how You continue to be marginalized and dismissed by both our people and our institutions. We are also saddened by the fact that Your people have contributed greatly to the spiritual apathy that now engulfs us. Our satisfaction in remaining religious without being fully committed to living out the truths of Your Word has caused us to become co-conspirators with the forces of evil that are destroying us as a society. It is for this reason that we personally and collectively repent of our carnality and recommit ourselves to becoming visible and verbal disciples of Jesus Christ. Enable us, by Your Spirit, to no longer be secret agent Christians but rather to publicly declare and live out Your truth in a spirit of love so that You feel welcome in our country once again. Thank You for Your promise to hear our prayers when we call to You with hearts of repentance and obedience, which is how we are appealing to You today, Father. On behalf of Your church, we affirm afresh the priority You are to us that You would fill every dimension of our lives as we seek to bring You glory through the advancement of Your kingdom in our personal lives, our family lives, and in the lives of our churches and our government leaders. We confidently invite heaven s intervention into all the affairs of our nation and we praise You in advance for Your answer. In Jesus name we pray. Amen. Financial Aid Letters Coming Home Soon The ILSTO deadline has passed, so they will soon be determining how much financial aid families will receive. CHAPEL NEWS 3rd Trimester Offerings Ronald McDonald House 5.11.16 Leader Kindergarten May Hymn O the Month Stay With Us Singing: Kindergarten As soon as we receive word from ILSTO, we will then determine SPICE and TAC awards. All of this information will come home in the form of a hard copy letter that will indicate how much your family will receive and your ESTIMAT- ED monthly payment for 2016-17. When we send the letters home, they will come home with your child in a sealed envelope. We will put out an email letting you know which day they are coming home. Short of snail-mailing them home, we can t get them to you quicker or more securely. It would be unwise to email that kind of financial information. The letter will also indicate the dates of the 5-day window that families have to request a return of their enrollment fees if they decide they are not receiving enough financial assistance to return.
P a g e 3 Fill the Grocery Cart Central Lutheran School is accepting nonperishable food items, cleaning products and personal hygiene products for the Atkins Helping Hands Food Bank. During the summer months, demand goes up for everything because school children are home round-the-clock and don t have breakfast or lunch programs available through the schools. When sending food items, please check the expiration dates. We will accept donations through the remainder of the school year, but it would be most helpful if you could bring your donations to the concert tonight so that Mercks can take some donations with them when they are here tonight to tape the concert. The grocery cart will be in the annex during the concert. You may put your donations there. It will be near the office during the school days for your donations. Thank you in advance. CLS Observes NDOP Here s a little known fact: The Hilton family (as in the famous Hotel Hilton family and the infamous Paris Hilton) and the National Day of Prayer actually have a connection. In 1952, Conrad Hilton initiated a bill that was eventually signed into law by President Truman that directed the President of the United States to set aside one day each year, other than Sunday, as National Day of Prayer to pray for our nation and the nation s leaders. Mr. Hilton was simply following up on what our forefathers did back in 1775 when the First Continental Congress literally asked colonists to pray for wisdom in forming a nation. Through the years, a lot of behind the scenes work has taken place to make NDOP more than just a great idea. In 1988 President Reagan signed into law Public Law 100-307 which designated the first Thursday in May as National Day of Prayer. In fact, every president, since 1952, has signed a NDOP proclamation, proving that prayer knows no political affiliation. (Citation: www.nationaldayofprayer.org) Today the staff and students at Central Lutheran School observed NDOP, praying together for our nation at various times of the day via the loudspeaker.
Thank you to Pastor Preus from Trinity Vinton for leading our chapel today and to the 3rd grade for singing.
