That is the question. Easter Sunday April 1st Easter Breakfast 8:30 am Easter Egg Hunt 9 am There will be no Sunday School classes on Easter Sunday. Bring the whole family to breakfast. OPERATION CHRISTMAS CHILD FOCUS FOR APRIL: Stuffed Animals Dollar Tree often has cute seasonal animals and little stuffed dolls. Can t beat that price. Or check the stores after Easter and pick up a few stuffed animals at half price. Any time that God speaks to you, through His word, asking you to be, or not to be a certain way, it is affirming the concept of Free Will. When He asks you to BE! You have a role in being! For instance, Be Kind. You have the choice as to whether you choose to be kind or not, even though the call sent forth to you, is to Be Kind! you don t have to, you can choose to Be Mean! instead. Your heart can say no to God. But it shouldn t. Hence another BE, Be obedient! Without faith it is impossible to please God. Without Him we can do nothing. With God all things are possible. So, as Shakespeare put it, To Be? or Not To Be? That is the question. Indeed. Especially in the spiritual, and eternal matters of the heart. Problems arise when we give God a rebuttal, I am unable to be kind! (which isn t true) OR But they don t deserve my kindness. God s clarity is on purpose, when He doesn t say, If they deserve it. It means He didn t put conditions on who to be kind to. The same goes for the opposite, to NOT be. Jesus said in, Matthew 6:5-8 And when you pray, do not be like the hypocrites, for they love to pray standing in the synagogues and on the street corners to be seen by others. Truly I tell you, they have received their reward in full. But when you pray, go into your room, close the door and pray to your Father, who is unseen. Then your Father, who sees what is done in secret, will reward you. And when you pray, do not keep on babbling like pagans, for they think they will be heard because of their many words. Do not be like them, for your Father knows what you need before you ask him. God has never said, and will never say, Okay, sometimes, there are hypocrites you can imitate. OR Unless you find a Pagan that is really good at babbling, then you can imitate him, but no one else! To Be? OR, Not To Be? That is the question, and those are the choices. Below is a short list of some things God specifies in His word, TO BE, and the second list are some things He specifically says, NOT TO BE. In each of these, God is asking us something within our ability (as long as we include Him, all things He asks are possible), and we decide whether we comply or not, because we have Free Will: BE Glad. BE Careful. BE Baptized. BE On your guard. BE Humble. BE Strong and Courageous. BE Holy. BE Faithful. BE Transformed. BE Obedient. BE Sober-minded. BE Wise. BE Self-controlled. BE Merciful. BE Ready. BE Gentle. BE Confident. BE Bold. BE Victorious. BE Light and Salt.
A P R I L 2 0 1 8 BE God s Child. BE Born Again. BE Blameless. DO NOT BE Troubled. DO NOT BE Afraid. DO NOT BE Discouraged. DO NOT BE Conformed. DO NOT BE Lazy. DO NOT BE Foolish. DO NOT BE Double-minded. DO NOT BE Doubtful. DO NOT BE Hard-hearted. DO NOT BE Divisive. DO NOT BE Judgmental. DO NOT BE Arrogant. DO NOT BE Easily Angered. DO NOT BE Deceptive. 2 Peter 3: 8-12 But do not forget this one thing, dear friends: With the Lord a day is like a thousand years, and a thousand years are like a day. The Lord is not slow in keeping his promise, as some understand slowness. Instead he is patient with you, not wanting anyone to perish, but everyone to come to repentance. But the day of the Lord will come like a thief. The heavens will disappear with a roar; the elements will be destroyed by fire, and the earth and everything done in it will be laid bare. Since everything will be destroyed in this way, what kind of people ought you to be? You ought to live holy and godly lives as you look forward to the day of God and speed its coming. Romans 6: 1-15 What shall we say then? Are we to continue in sin so that grace may increase? May it never be! How shall we who died to sin still live in it? Or do you not know that all of us who have been baptized into Christ Jesus have been baptized into His death? Therefore we have been buried with Him through baptism into death, so that as Christ was raised from the dead through the glory of the Father, so we too might walk in newness of life. For if we have become united with Him in the likeness of His death, certainly we shall also be in the likeness of His resurrection, knowing this, that our old self was crucified with Him, in order that our body of sin might be done away with, so that we would no longer be slaves to sin; for he who has died is freed from sin. Now if we have died with Christ, we believe that we shall also live with Him, knowing that Christ, having been raised from the dead, is never to die again; death no longer is master over Him. For the death that He died, He died to sin once for all; but the life that He lives, He lives to God. Even so consider yourselves to be dead to sin, but alive to God in Christ Jesus. Therefore do not let sin reign in your mortal body so that you obey its lusts, and do not go on presenting the members of your body to sin as instruments of unrighteousness; but present yourselves to God as those alive from the dead, and your members as instruments of righteousness to God. For sin shall not be master over you, for you are not under law but under grace. What then? Shall we sin because we are not under law but under grace? May it never be! BE who God wants you to be. DO NOT BE who the world wants you to be. Freely ask God for help. He will! Hopefully you will BE in Church this Sunday. I will BE!
