The meat shipments were stamped with the U.S. Someone joked that the initials stood for Uncle Sam. This joke eventually leads to the idea of Uncle Sam symbolizing the United States government. Independence Day acquired its unofficial theme song on July 4, 1897, at the Manhattan Beach Music Hall on the eastern end of Coney Island.
