United Methodist Women, like The United Methodist Church, is a connectional system. The major links of United Methodist Women are: The local unit The district organization The conference organization The jurisdiction organization The national office All of these groups relate to one another in a variety of ways. Every level of the organization is connected in mission with Global Ministries. Local units report to district organizations, which in turn report to conference organizations. All local units, districts and conferences are located in one of five jurisdictions. United Methodist Women members also participate in mission in their local communities. With these facts of our organization, we can be proud of what UMW's have been doing for many years! I was honored to serve as your President. As I look toward the end of the year, and see that my term as President of the Gainesville District ending, I am sad to see it end. Yet, I see relief in not having this responsibility. I have enjoyed the opportunity to serve you. I know that with the illnesses in my household, I have not done all the things I had hoped to accomplish. During the coming year, 2013, let's see this District move forward in Mission. Each Unit, please become active, not only in your local units, but in the District, the Conference, Jurisdiction, and National Unit! As many of you know, we will no longer under the "Women's Division, but "UMW National". There will be more flexibility within our local and district units. As the new term approaches, I know that Diane West will serve us well. We can look to her with confidence that the Gainesville District will flourish under her leadership. Support your local officers and unit. Attend the District events: Lenten Day Apart, Spiritual Growth Event, Annual Meeting, Leadership Training, and the Conference events. Support your District Officers, and they can serve you far better. Invite them to assist you in programs, events, etc. We are a Mission Organization, and let's continue to serve with hearts in mission. Look to God for guidance and He will direct your path. I will remain active. If I can be of service to any Unit, please let me know. The Lord bless you and keep you, the Lord make His face to shine upon you and give you Peace. Marviene Brand 1
