Hosted by Parish Care Team - Chairperson Lois Zaloom Every Wednesday, Beginning February 21st at 11:00 am in the Guild Room for information: spats11@optonline.net SUNDAY SCHOOL NEWS The Sunday School children (ages first grade and up) have been journaling! The inspiration for our journals is found in St. John, our church's patron Saint. He is known to our kids as Jesus' best friend. They like that the Gospel of John reads like a diary, albeit a very holy one. They think it's cool because it is a best friend's account of hanging out with Jesus. Lent is a bit daunting starting with ashes and ending with Jesus hanging on the cross. But our kids are very brave--and feel confident with Jesus and Jesus' best friend, John on this Lenten journey with them. They feel there is a holy and grand purpose in every nook and cranny

of traveling to Calvary. In this Lenten time of darkness, the kids remember how The Gospel of John starts. Such poetry and such promise turn things we may fear, ashes and the cross, into proof that life conquers death. The Word gave life to everything that was created, and his life brought light to everyone. The light shines in the darkness, and the darkness can never extinguish it. John 1: 4-5 You will see in their journal art that the cross was once a living thing--a tree to whom was given an amazing role in the life of Jesus Christ. We spent some time talking about the acorn that the tree once was and what happened to the cross after Easter. The kids posited that even if the Roman soldiers burned the cross--the fact that we have a cross above our Altar means the tree never died. They talked about receiving the body and blood of Christ under its branches...and I am crying at the beauty of this. Such kids! They are miracles. They know there is a lot of Easter in Lent, just like their friend St. John.~ Miss Courtney THISTLE & SPOON MINISTRY Schedule for the friendship dinners at THE GLEN COVE MEN'S SHELTER DATE: HOSTED BY:
