You may notice our new Connection Box which is attached to the lectern where the guestbook used to be. The Worship Team is not using Connection Cards to invite West Zion guests to leave their contact information. The cards will be kept on the lectern and greeters will ask guests to fill out the cards and place in the Connections Box or in the offering plate. FALL CHURCH PICNIC CDT is planning a fall church picnic on Sunday evening Sept. 27, The picnic is at Phil & Lorene Lohrenz s cabin beginning at 5PM. A hayrack ride will take place at 5:15 p.m. Hot dogs, buns, smores, and drink are provided. Bring a lawn chair, roasting sticks (if you have some), side dish OR chips. The annual MCC Flatlander Bicycle Ride is Sat. Sept. 19, originating at the Mennonite Central Committee offices. 121 E. 30 th Street, N.. Newton. This year s ride raises funds for an MCC water development project in Tanzania. Rides of approximately 35, 45, and 65 miles, as well as a shorter family ride are planned. Informational brochures are available on the bulletin board. Sun., Sept. 13, KIPCOR Film Series 2015-16 begins with Slavery by Another Name, 3 PM, Krehbiel Auditorium at Bethel College. This PBS documentary deals with the re-enslavement of black Americans from the Civil War to World War II. Talk-back session with Dr. Galyn Vesey to follow. 12. Sun., Sept. 20, Sunday-Afternoon-at-the-Museum 3 PM. Ben Chappell, a professor of American studies at the University of Kansas, will speak on softball as a cultural resource, using the example of Mexican-American fast-pitch softball and Newton s annual summer tournament, the oldest in the country (part of the Root for the Home Team special exhibit programming). 13. The Pine Village Garage & Bake Sales is Sept. 25-26 in the Wellness Center. Friday, the sales are from 4-7 PM and also will include a Sloppy Joe Supper; Saturday the sales are from 8 AM Noon with a Cinnamon Roll breakfast beginning at 7:30 AM.
