The PDABBLE GAMES PRESENTS Magestic Messenger The official newsletter of the Magestry Live Action Role-Playing Game Elftember (September) 2004 Volume 2, Issue 10 Elemental Portals Opening Everywhere! The Magestic Portal authority reports that portals to the elemental planes have been opening at an alarming rate. Sources from within the administration have done their best to dispel the rumor that the Empire of Tohmshire is the cause of this increased elemental activity. The Portal Authority has now released the information that four elemental Callers are at the bottom of this new planar conjunction. For now, it seems as if the callers are working alone, but many are speculating upon who the callers might be, and who they working for. Elemental Callers are a small but powerful group of people who have the ability to summon and control different elemental forces. They are almost always focused on one type of energy. It has been said that Elementals obey them, and they are able to use specific elemental magics quite effectively. The Portal Authority is rather confused about the nature of these new portals opening in and around the world of Magesta. Usually, portals are easily identifiable and easily dispelled with the passing of the magestream. These new portals are able to allow elemental creatures to arrive anywhere within a given area, so it is difficult to figure out where exactly the portal is located. Elementals arrive as much more of a surprise now, and are difficult to defend against, simply because they are able to penetrate buildings and strongholds so effectively. Random Elemental appearances have been reported in the Great Frostwood, Romoria, Bloomingport, Riverton, and Elmerton. People in these areas are advised to keep a close eye out for elemental disturbances, and to travel in groups, for the elemental creatures that are arriving are very powerful. Alchemists report that weapon enchantments are being sold at record numbers, and worry about being able to supply Magestans with enough of them to guard against the renewed Elemental activity. To combat this problem of elemental attack, the Portal Authority has hired groups of adventurers to investigate and eliminate these portals as quickly as possible. All citizens are asked to assist these groups in any way possible, including any information on the Elemental Callers responsible for the illegal portals, as well as information regarding an off dimension hopper known as Gilbert, who is suspected of withholding information about the nature of these portals. Gilbert is also wanted in the Realm of Rivia for questioning. Until these portals are found and closed, there seems to be no visible end to the elemental attacks. Copyright 2004 PDabble Games. Page 2 Attention All Towns Members: As you may well know, Sir Haku Steelwind, the captain of our town guard, was slain in battle against the Disciples of Dissention. Haku was devoted to stopping the DOD and gave his life in defense of the crown. More importantly, Haku gave his life defending his fellow towns members. The war with Tohmshire is taxing the King s army. The DOD has been growing in strength. There is a lack of a sufficient garrison in the town. Therefore, I am asking that Haku s sacrifice be honored and the battle readiness of our limited garrison be improved. Effective immediately, any one who wishes to sign up for the local guard will receive a minimum two silver salary per moon. Proficiency as a fighter is not required, as the guard can always use specialists. After a brief interview, a three moon contract will be written and signed, describing what is expected and what is offered to anyone who enlists. Anyone interested or anyone with a question should speak with me as soon as possible. Sincerely, Lt. Luther Hungsinger Greetings fellow town s members, I am writing a formal complaint in the matter of Magistrate Hatch VanGraves and my sentencing for my alleged crime of Conspiracy to Murder a Towns member. I have many reasons to be so disgruntled, as I feel the governing of this town is not being done in a very fair, efficient, or effective manner. A few moons ago, I was charged of the crime of conspiracy to murder a towns member. First of all, there was no actual evidence to support these claims. A one Baeric DeSeiss took it upon his own to approach Sir Haku and state these horrendous claims; which later I found his motive in doing so was merely to further a secret plan that Baeric was indeed formulating in his endeavor to strip Sir Haku of his knighthood and get him removed from the town. However, in that I do not wish to accuse my estranged friend or throw him to the wrath of the unjust Magistrate, I refrain from disclosing any further details on the subject. However, I will add that I find it amusing that the leaders of our town take the word of such as Baeric a known and self proclaimed thief and brigand as gospel. Or even the fact that never once has the law taken any actions against such known thieves. M a g e s t i c M e s s e n g e r At any rate, I believe that I was not given my fair rights as a townsperson. As of late I have heard that the Magistrate has now charged the librarian Justin Kray with a number of charges, and that he is to be given a fair trial. Now, while my opinions on the Mr. Kray matter are to be reserved for another date, I will note that I find it unfair that Mr. Kray is allowed a public trial due to the fact that it has become a public affair and that Mr. Kray holds a rather prestigious title as librarian. I, on the other hand, being one of the less popular town s members, was not even offered a trial. I was approached in secret by the Magistrate and Sir Haku who then informed me of the charges against me. I was instructed by Magistrate Hatch, that in order to settle the issue, I would have to be hypnotized by Helik. I was then informed that if I refused to be hypnotized, then I would automatically be admitting to being guilty of these charges. Now, ladies and gentlemen, I ask you if that sounds like a fair trial. After I had no choice but to agree, I was hypnotized, and it was learned that I had not actually planned on seriously having Lynsara killed, but I was merely venting my anger towards her personal verbal attacks on myself, as well as testing the loyalty of Mr. DeSeiss as I often entrusted him with very personal matters and I needed to be sure of his friendship. Not only that, but no money was ever exchanged and no documents ever signed to prove that I was indeed serious about such talk. After all was said and done, Magistrate Hatch assured me that I would receive no punishment due to the fact that there was no proof that I had any serious intentions of hiring Baeric to do such deeds. I was told that if this ever happened again, however, that at that point serious actions would take place. I was utterly shocked to hear at last moon s town meeting that his ruling had been changed and that I must now provide healing twice every moon to Lynsara. I was never informed of this, and I was under the impression that his ruling had already been made. I guess the lack of a public trial and hearing makes it easy for one to change his mind as such without any repercussions. I d also like to add that I find it astonishing that I could be dealt such an extensive punishment, whereas Sir Haku actually physically assaulted me in front of witnesses for no valid reason, and his sole punishment was only to run and fetch a potion to heal what he caused in the first place. Even at the last town meeting, just about the entire town heard Sir Haku publicly threatened to disintegrate me if I continued to laugh at the fact that he not only spoke friendly with but repaired armor for members of the DOD. And still no actions were taken against him. Perhaps that is a special perk to being the self proclaimed town hero as well as personal assistant of the Magistrate. I ask you fellow townspeople, if one person s word against another s is enough to convict; if speaking harshly or jokingly about a serious subject is enough to merit punishment, then I ask you what sort of town are we living in? It is only a matter of time before we have to watch ever little word we utter as long as someone with ears is around. I sadly foresee our town falling to pieces, as town s member upon towns member is allowed to point a vengeful finger towards one another in accusa- (Continued on page 3)

Volume 2, Issue 10 Page 3 tion or for their own gain or spite, and our discriminating Magistrate is only more than happy to dish out harsh and even lethal punishments on the basis of a few words or assumptions. At least now our town hero isn t present any longer to force his opinions on our Magistrate. But how long will it be until someone else who has the power to smite anyone who disagrees with him comes along and makes the Magistrate his new puppet? Respectfully, Aneurin of the Shining Ones -may you walk in light and goodness- To all Persons of Elmerton I have heard much talk among the townspeople spreading false and wicked rumors focused at me. I can assure everyone I am not evil nor do I have evil intentions to anyone in town. I take great offence to these allegations, and see them as an insult to my integrity, standing, and intelligence. If I hear anyone speak these rumors I should rightly and literally through the book at you; however, you will be challenged to a battle of wits Do not take this lightly, for I do not! Death will be the result of such a challenge and I would hate to have the blood of a town s member on my hands, or on my books. Your most humble librarian, Justin P. Kray Gypsy Festival in Elmerton Come one, come all to the Gathering of Gypsies, to be held in Elmerton in the kingdom of Irvanshire. Everyone is invited to come and celebrate life with us! See exotic wares, skilled dancers, and storytellers. Have your fortune told, and sit among us in the gypsy circle! Activities will be occurring throughout Friday, Saturday and Sunday, and the Gypsy circle will open to all at the tenth hour after noon on Saturday. Learn about the Gypsy way of life, and come to the Gathering! ARMEGO! You claim to be a mighty warrior, Armego, and even claim to be the incarnation of war, but it seemed you could not fight me on level ground and had to disintegrate my arms before you felt even with me. I, Farrock Frosthill, challenge you to another match, wherein there will be no use of magiks, only our swords speaking for themselves. I hope you accept this challenge so I can show you what a pretender you are. When you arrive here, you should hope that your skills in battle are up to the challenge, and I hope that your so called "honor" hasn t been bruised too much by needing to resort to cheap tricks to defeat an alchemist. Farrock Frosthill To all citizens, My reception and acceptance by the town was a pleasant surprise. I would especially like to thank Magistrate Hatch Van Graves, Sir Haku, Kalim, Gonis, Lady Adora, and Rakanishu for their hospitality and friendliness to a poor wanderer such as myself. Secondly, should anyone hear of any activities of the Frost Reaver tribe of orcs or the whereabouts of my sisters Elodra and Clymenestra, please contact me immediately! I have quested for many long years for the Frost Reavers' location, and any information would be deeply appreciated. Finally, it is my intention to seek instruction in the arts of healing. I would deeply appreciate any help given in this endeavor. Also, I will be available to teach, for a nominal fee, the arts of Magestry to any interested person - serious students only, please. Sincerely, Winter Citizens Take Note: It is with great pride that I am able to welcome Lucian J. Romeno into the prestigious ranks of the Court Magestic. On Elftember the third he adeptly handled the admittance trials and proved his extreme degree of competence in the magical arts. His formal acceptance will occur with this next passing of the moon. -the esteemed Goremir Verendtas

It is a private ceremony. In lieu of flowers, please donate to the Feed Terrence s Fat Wife fund, started by Biggs in 1999 to infuriate Terrence and his lady fair. Sir Haku Steelwind Son of Rukki, Knight of Rulian, Captain of the Town Watch, died at the hands of the Disciples of Dissention, after being forced to betray his friends and wear their Dead Tree Symbol. His body was last seen being arranged by a Disciple in a mockery of a knightly burial. May his life of service and ignoble death be avenged.
