Kuwait Fund for Arab Economic Development (The first development establishment in the Arab World) The foundation of Kuwait Fund for Arab Economic Development was announced in December as an initiative of The late Amir of Kuwait His Highness Sheikh Jaber Al Ahmed Al Sabah, who was the Minister of Finance then, to be the first development established by the State of Kuwait after its independence in order to grant financial assistances to Arab and Islamic countries in the world. The foundation of the Fund in this early time was as an announcement of the State of Kuwait s interest to help developing countries by means of extending the available loans necessary to execute economic and social development programs in the same based on proper technical and economic bases. The Fund achieved a high position for itself among regional and international development establishments due to its significant role in this field. The Kuwait Fund s activities extend to numerous and various parts of the world. It contributes to the development projects submitted by Arab countries and countries in Africa, Asia, Europe, Latin America and the Caribbean Sea. Its activities also extended to finance development projects in different sectors of the economies of such countries such as transport, telecommunication, agriculture, energy, industry and water and sewerage sectors. In addition to the Fund s activities related to extension of loans, the Fund also extended technical assistances to finance exploratory projects which help to specify the chances of the productive energies construction and provision of grants & technical assistances extended by the Fund since its foundation is assistance with a total value of millions US$ Kuwait Fund activities was not limited to participation in financing the projects but also extended from another side to represent the State of Kuwait in the membership of the regional and international development participated in the reimbursement of the State of Kuwait s share un the Capital of such establishment in order to increase the available resources of such establishment in order lend developing countries.
