Next Sunday March 3, 2019 8th Sunday in Ordinary Time Learn Swahili with Fr. Chumo Mungu wangu= my God Unirehemu= Have mercy on me Tupendani sisi kwa sisi = Let s love one another Seventh Sunday of the Year Most of us would admit that it is never easy or natural to love those who have hurt us. In the Gospel this weekend, Jesus addresses the crowds and proclaims a new teaching challenge ; love your enemies, do good to those who hate you, bless those who curse you, pray for those who treat you badly. We have here four imperatives as to how disciples should behave when confronted with evil. They should not retaliate. They are proof that Jesus rejected any recourse to violence because not only does it not improve things, it make things worse. It does not help evil doers become good or change them. The love Jesus teaches does not mean to put up with injustice in silence, but we must take an active part in eliminating injustice. Jesus rejects the means condemned by the Gospel to achieve it.. Never pay back evil with evil, but master evil with good. If we do as Jesus commands us, our reward will be great ; we will be the children of the Most High. Our real reward will be to have the joy of our heavenly Father. The message of Jesus prepares to enter into the spirit of Lent when we reflect in a more intense way how Jesus loved us and gave His life for our salvation. With the grace of God we cannot live the law of love. Love as Jesus taught is what will bring healing into our hearts and into the whole world. Humor: The following prayer is hanging on the wall at one of our parishioner s home: Good morning! This is God. I will be handling all of your problems today. I will not need your help. So, relax and have a great day! What prayer should be said at night before going to bed? Someone should come up with one.
