The Women s Zionist Organization of America, Inc. Great Plains Region Indianapolis Chapter of Hadassah www.hadassah.org/indianapolis Summer 2014 August 18 August 27 Board Meeting September 5 Roses Orders Due September 9 Indy Historical Trip September 15 September 17 Board Meeting September 22 Sort Roses at Vans September 23 Roses Delivery October 15 Lunch and Learn October 20 October 22 Board Meeting Roses, Beautiful Roses Freddie Kaseff We hope everyone is enjoying their summer. Fall and the Holidays will be here before you know it. It s time to start thinking about our Hadassah s annual Roses for Rosh Hashanah project. Your order form is included with this newsletter. We ask that you submit your order by Friday, September 5, 2014. Volunteers are needed to help make this a successful year. We need volunteers to sort roses at Van s on Monday, September 22. We also need members to help wrap at the JCC and deliver roses on Tuesday, September 23. We want to thank all the volunteers who helped last year. Hopefully those who volunteered before can help again and help recruit additional volunteers for this year. I know this is early to be thinking about preparations for our Roses for Rosh Hashanah project, but please keep these dates open so we have enough volunteers. Please note our Roses order form has a space for email addresses. This is necessary for all orders placed with a credit card. Hadassah will be sending you a receipt for your purchase via email. Thank you for your help.

Page 2 Co Joan Katz I came to Hadassah late. It wasn't until I moved to Indianapolis in 1992 that I discovered Hadassah. For several years, I went from one group to another trying to fit meetings into my busy schedule. Finally I found a home in Szold where, within a short time, I found myself its president. Hadassah discovered me, at the same time, and I made my first trip to Israel as part of a Leadership Mission. In the last twenty-two years, Hadassah has changed dramatically, and, yet, its mission remains the same. Because of what Hadassah does, both in Israel, and throughout the world, I believe in Hadassah's mission and ask you to join me. It's time to ask not what Hadassah can do for you, but what you can do for Hadassah! Sadly, the past few years have seen a decrease in participation here in Indianapolis. We are still stable, at 1,000 members strong, but less than 10% support us financially. Only 5% of you attended the wonderful Donor event on June 1 st. Less than 10% participate in our volunteer activities, attend or Lunch n Learn. Last year we were the only chapter in our Region who did not meet one of our quotas. Only you can turn our chapter around! Support our projects. Buy a dozen Roses for Rosh Hashanah and make someone smile. Send a certificate in honor of a special day. A Discover Indy Book will save you money and support Hadassah at the same time. Join us for our museum trip in September. Come to our September Meeting A Taste of Hadassah and find out about all our activities. Did you know our Riley Project is approaching the thirty year mark? Gift a family member or friend with a Hadassah membership. Involve yourself in Hadassah! Now More Than Ever Myrna Fang When Janice Weinman, National Hadassah CEO, spoke at Indianapolis Hadassah s recent donor luncheon, she was asked how important the Keepers of the Gate program is to Hadassah s life-enhancing projects. Her response was, now more than ever. All members who recognize the tremendous value of Hadassah s Keepers of the Gate program, especially in this time of reorganizational need, should consider becoming a Keeper and proudly wear the beautiful silver and gold Harp of David pin. Contributions are tax-deductible, except for the pin. Keepers pledge a minimum of $1,000 or more annually for as long as they are able. After ten years of remittances, the Keeper s name is inscribed on Hadassah s Keepers of the Gate wall in Jerusalem. Hadassah Riley Project Hadassah volunteers are busy helping our little patients at Riley Hospital this summer! Won t you please join us? For more information contact: Beverly Bercovitz: 255-9568 Myrna Fang: 253-0092 We can make 2014 a special year. With your help we can meet all our goals. Join me in strengthening Indianapolis Hadassah. We can do it!

Page 3 78 th Annual Donor Brunch Recap Helaine Herman On June 1 st, Hadassah members joined together for our 78 th annual Donor Brunch at the Broadmoor Country Club. The keynote speaker was Janice Weinman, Executive Director of Hadassah, WZOA. She updated us on the activities and political scene of our Hadassah Medical Organization in Israel. It appears the reorganization is working well, and Israel will help us meet the challenges of the future. Deedle Kahn presented Naomi Farahan with a certificate from our chapter in honor of her selection as the Hadassah- Young Judaea Tomorrow Award. Naomi is a senior at University High School in Carmel. She is the daughter of Vika and David Farahan. Upbeat musical entertainment performed by the talented 65 th Street Klezmorim added to our enjoyment and the buffet brunch was delicious. A delightful time was had by all. I wish to thank Brenda Freedman for table decorations, the Board Members who served on our calling committee, Jennifer & Marquis Hodes for their help with set-up, Ruth Grossman and everyone who pitched in to make this day a success. If you were unable to attend this memorable program, be sure to make a note to save the date next year.

Page 4 Lunch and Learn Phyllis Russell Join us at the JCC when our new season opens October 15, 2014.
