Kevin s Comments EASTER REMINDS US OF WHERE OUR REAL HOPE IS As I write this I am reflecting on how disappointed I was this past Sunday when the University of Cincinnati lost in the NCAA tournament after leading the game by 22 points with a little over ten minutes to go. (Notice I didn t say anything about Xavier losing in similar fashion later on in the same night. I guess that loss didn t hurt nearly as bad (Ha,Ha).) I had such high hopes for both local teams. But the sun came up today! God is still God! I am so blessed in so many ways. It is so easy to allow our eyes to focus on the temporary in hopes it will bring us lasting satisfaction but we only can experience that hope when we think E-T-E-R-N-I-T-Y! As followers of Christ, let s remember where our real hope lies. I Peter 1:3 reads, Praise be to the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ. In his great mercy, he has given us new birth into a living hope through the resurrection of Jesus Christ from the dead. All other hopes are dying hopes. Only Jesus is a living hope. Our hope isn t in our favorite athletic teams they let us down. Our hope isn t in politicians they re inept. Our hope isn t in our country its foundations are crumbling. Our hope isn t in this world it could be blown up by a nuclear exchange any day. Our ultimate hope isn t in our family either our loved ones disappoint and die. Our ultimate hope must be based on Jesus Christ. He provides us with a living hope that can never perish, spoil or fade kept in heaven for you. Jesus alone is to be worshipped and praised. A hundred years from now basketball won t matter because, The world and its desires pass away, but whoever does the will of God lives forever. (1 John 2:17) In the sermon on the Mount Jesus said, Therefore everyone who hears these words of mine and puts them into practice is like a wise man who built his house on a rock. The rains came down, the streams rose, and the winds blew and beat against that house; yet it did not fall, because it had its foundation on the rock. If our main interest is sports, then we re like the foolish man Jesus told about who built his house on the sand. A storm will come someday and whisk it away and we ll be left with nothing. The old hymn summarizes today s lesson well: On Christ the solid rock I stand, all other ground is sinking sand. The Lord delights in those who fear him, who put their hope in his unfailing love (Psalm 147:11). WHY NOT INVITE SOMEONE TO COME WITH YOU ON EASTER SUNDAY SO THAT THEY MAY EXPERIENCE THE ONE (CHRIST) WHO CAN GIVE US A HOPE THAT WILL NEVER SPOIL OR FADE! HE HAS GUARANTEED THE VICTORY FOR US! Trusting Him for the Win, Kevin

Recently I started being more intentional about running 3 times a week. I hate long distance running and by long distance I mean more than a quarter of a mile. Running for a game or emergency I have no problem; running monotonously for an extended period of time for the sake of distance is my bane. I will never be able to run a 5K if I can t get past.5 miles without wanting to just die. My running form and breathing is so awful I ve had to learn how to improve the short distance I do already. You want to do BIG things right? Think of the some of the BIG life moments you ve daydreamed about and how you imagined rising to the occasion spectacularly. Now think of all the little moments you go through everyday life that you dismiss with a whatever or it doesn t matter attitude. I certainly have told myself at times, don t be bothered by those. When it matters you ll know for sure to get it. Now look back on your life at some of your BIG moments and how easily did you rise to those occasions? Maybe you re dealing with the fallout of them still. A common phrase I ve heard thrown around is, Don t sweat the small stuff. This phrase is intended to help people realize that the small things are not something to be overly concerned about. The danger of using this saying as a life mantra is that there are a lot of little things in life, like a ton, and altogether they can make one sweat unless you choose not to do anything about them at all because, after all, they re just small stuff. In Matthew 25 Jesus tells a parable of a master putting 3 servants in charge of small portions of His wealth, 2 of the 3 servants took what little was given to them and were able to proliferate their entrusted investments while the third did nothing. When the master returned the master told the 2 who managed their investment wisely, I have put you in charge of little, I will now put you in charge of much more! However, with the third he shamed for not even putting to use the little he was given. If the small stuff makes you sweat it could be because you re not handling it at all. We want to be there for the BIG champion of faith and godly character moments like we read in the Bible. We forget the champions of faith have a foundation of particulate sediment and rocks of little moments that support the shining examples they are. Take the life of King David for example and, in contrast to that, consider for example the life of Samson. If the small stuff makes you sweat, it might be because you are not conditioned for it yet. If the small stuff makes you sweat, imagine how exhausting the BIG moments would be. If running a mile leaves me gassed and depleted, I would die doing a 5K. What are the little moments of your life that you are ignoring? The moments you dismiss with a whatever or I don t even care that only take a couple moments of your time to deal with. Go and deal with it, that way when the big moments come you ve sweated like that before and can handle it. Joe Student Ministry News Questions? Alpha Class News The Alpha Class met on Monday, March 19th. We enjoyed a time of food and fellowship at Maddy s in Sardinia, with Barry Singleton praying for the meal. After our meal time we went to the church to watch the movie WONDER. Based on the New York Times bestseller, WONDER tells the inspiring and heartwarming story of August Pullman. Born with facial differences that, up until now, have prevented him from going to a mainstream school, Auggie becomes the most unlikely of heroes when he enters the local fifth grade. As his family, his new classmates, and the larger community all struggle to find their compassion and acceptance, Auggie's extraordinary journey unites them all and proves you can't blend in when you were born to stand. Everyone enjoyed the movie. Robert Drake provided popcorn. We had some discussion about the movie afterwards while enjoying fudge made by Robert Drake. We discussed how someone can make a huge impact, even with a handicap. We agreed that children, as well as adults, shouldn t mistreat kids or people who are different. We talked about bullying and how there should be a no-tolerance policy at schools regarding bullying. We were glad to get together after taking a break for the last few months. If anyone is looking for a Sunday School class to attend, the Alpha Class invites you to join us on Sunday morning at 9:00. We meet in the classroom across from the Sanctuary on the offices side of the building. Diana Newman

This is an outreach service lovingly provided to everyone. The purpose of the Mustardseed Ministry is to reach out to the community and join together for a night of fellowship and food.
