Many thanks to all who attended our Catechetical Conference last week. Special thanks to those who presented workshops or helped with the Conference. There was a wonderful energy among the participants as we focused on Living as Missionary Disciples and as we prepared for another year of serving, teaching and accompanying God s people. Co-Workers in Transition We just celebrated Catechetical Sunday and are beginning a new program year. In some parishes, new directors of religious education, faith formation or youth ministry have taken the helm and are putting out into the deep. For a list of new ministers and positions, click here. For those starting in a new role, there is excitement in setting out. There are new relationships, lots to learn, and a sense that anything is possible. But there can be plenty of challenges, uncertainty, and missteps too. Transitions can be a spiritually rich time, as the Lord continues to remake us for his service. For all who have begun a new role this year, let us pray, and let us pledge our support and companionship along the way. Office of Catechesis and Youth Ministry News Parish and School Policy Manual We are happy to announce a new, completely updated Parish and School Policy Manual for the Archdiocese of Milwaukee. The manual was produced by the Office of Catechesis & Youth Ministry and the Office for Schools; it was reviewed by other diocesan offices, legal counsel, and educational leaders; and it received formal approval from Archbishop Listecki. The Parish and School Policy Manual provides an agreed upon instrument for ensuring that all our faith formation ministries are committed to catechetical excellence, safety, justice, and fostering lives of intentional discipleship. The Manual, and all associated forms, can be found at: https://www.archmil.org/catechesis/resources/policiesandforms.htm In October, we will offer regional sessions to assist in using the manual. During each session, we will explain the overall structure of the manual, and will highlight certain areas that are most relevant to parish religious education and youth ministry. The sessions will be: October 23, 2017-1:00pm - Location TBD October 25, 2017-10:00am - Location TBD October 26, 2017-1:00pm - Location TBD Connecting New College Freshmen with Catholic Campus Ministry https://sg-mktg.com/mtuwnjewotixmxxutjhyyvi4ste1yveycmgxy0v1dlh0yzutdxb4nw5lzwrlvwe3dc1bnzi0svjnlw1ioxfly3dwmvoyq0h 2/10

Last spring, we promoted an initiative called the Newman Connection, where we asked you to submit names and future colleges of your graduating seniors so they could be passed on to Catholic campus ministers where these young people will attend. Here s an update. To date, Catholic high schools and parishes here in the Archdiocese of Milwaukee submitted names and college destinations of 1258 graduating seniors. Most of these were submitted by our Catholic high schools. But 16 parishes also submitted names! The names were immediately forwarded to the campus ministers at the designated colleges/universities, so they were able to reach out to these new Catholic students when they arrived on campus. On the receiving end, the 12 Catholic campus ministries here in the Archdiocese received at total of 956 referrals. I think we ve had a good beginning for our first year. Come spring, we will ask you again. We hope that the number of participating parishes will grow, and that this effort will help us all to think beyond high school. Confirmation Retreat List One of the items that was heard at the Confirmation Consultations was that DREs/DYMs would like a listing of other Confirmation Retreats in the Archdiocese of Milwaukee. Participants felt that having a listing of other retreats would help them to find alternate retreats for those who are unable to attend their parishes retreat. If your parish is open to allowing teens from other parishes on your retreat, please submit your retreat details on this form. We will only accept overnight retreats for the listing. Retreat details will be available in October and will shared with any DRE/DYM/Parent/Youth who asks for Confirmation Retreats in the Archdiocese. Catechist Training Opportunites Are you working towards your religious education certificate or looking for a program to help you complete the requirements. Do you (and your staff) know how to engage them? The Millennial Church Conference exists to equip Catholic leaders in dioceses, parishes, and organizations to engage the Millennial https://sg-mktg.com/mtuwnjewotixmxxutjhyyvi4ste1yveycmgxy0v1dlh0yzutdxb4nw5lzwrlvwe3dc1bnzi0svjnlw1ioxfly3dwmvoyq0h 5/10

generation. Sponsored by Brew City Catholic, the young adult ministry initiative of the Archdiocese of Milwaukee. For more info and to register, see: https://archmil.regfox.com/millennial-church-conference From our Friends St. John Bosco Youth Day Saturday, October 7, 2017 Basilica of the National Shrine of Mary Help of Christians at Holy Hill Register now to attend the 17th St. John Bosco Youth Day held on Saturday, October 7, 2017 from 9am to 6 pm. Each year, hundreds of youth from Wisconsin s five dioceses gather at Holy Hill to share their faith in Jesus Christ. The day-long event promises to be spiritually fruitful, with inspirational speakers, heart-filled prayer, and faithful fun. The event is geared for youth in grades 8th - 12th. This year s theme is The Rock, recalling the prayer of the psalmist, "He will keep me safe in his dwelling and set me high upon a rock." With life today, young people can feel uncertain, pressured, or just plain scared. Help them learn to cling to God, their Rock, and to find a solid path to guide them, and a dependable Love to hold them secure. St. John Bosco Youth Day is a great opportunity for young people to rekindle that flame of faith given to us by Our Lord. Register Now Holy Fire UIC Pavilion, Chicago, IL October 20 & 21, 2017 Holy Fire is a one-day event of faith designed by the National Federation for Catholic Youth Ministry specifically for middle school youth (grades 6-9). It will again be held twice in Chicago at the UIC Pavilion from 9 a.m. - 3:30 p.m. on consecutive days - October 20 and 21, 2017. The event s mission is to engage young teens with the conviction of their baptismal promises and to challenge them to take a stand for their Catholic faith as they are sent forth to live as disciples in the world. In addition to the engaging musicians and speakers from across the United States, Cardinal Blase Cupich will be presiding over a special Mass of the Holy Spirit on both Friday and Saturday. Priests will also be listening to confession, as many young people desire to experience the gift of the sacrament during this special celebration. https://sg-mktg.com/mtuwnjewotixmxxutjhyyvi4ste1yveycmgxy0v1dlh0yzutdxb4nw5lzwrlvwe3dc1bnzi0svjnlw1ioxfly3dwmvoyq0h 6/10
