Unfortunately, the season is not yet over. Jose threatens our East Coast and Maria has caused damages in Dominica, Puerto Rico and is threatening other Caribbean islands. This collection will be sent to the United States Conference of Catholic Bishops to support the humanitarian and recovery efforts of Catholic Charities USA and will provide pastoral and rebuilding support to impacted dioceses through the USCCB. They will provide humanitarian aid in the form of water, food, shelter, and medical care, as well as to their long-term efforts to restore communities after widespread destruction. We ask that you continue to be generous in your giving and relentless in your prayers. Twenty-Fifth Sunday in Ordinary Time Today s Reflection: "For my thoughts are not your thoughts, nor are your ways my ways, says the Lord." It is close to impossible to grasp the depths of God's mercy and generosity. Most people today might think the landowner is clearly in the wrong for paying someone who has worked a full day the same wage as someone who has worked only the last hour. Jesus wants the parable to grab our attention and get us thinking about God's mercy. God's ways of thinking and acting are often not our ways of thinking and acting. He wants us to know that it is never too late to turn our lives around. God always desires us each and every moment of our existence. How can we mirror God's love and generosity? Next Sunday s Readings - October 1, 2017 - Twenty-Sixth Sunday in Ordinary Time Ezekiel 18:25-28 Philippians 2:1-11 Matthew 21:28-32 Meditation: What kind of future are you preparing for? Jesus encourages us to think - to think about the consequences of our choices, especially the choices and decisions that will count not just for now but for eternity as well. The choices we make now will affect and shape our future, both our future on earth as well as in the life of the age to come. Converting both heart and will to do what is good and pleasing to God The "rebellious" son told his father to his face that he would not work for him. But afterwards he changed his mind and did what his father commanded him. The "good" son said he would work for his father, but didn't follow through. He sought his own pleasure, contrary to his father's will. Now who was really the good son? Both sons disobeyed their father - but one repented and then did what the father told him. Jesus makes his point clear - Good intentions are not enough. And promises don't count unless they are performed. http://dailyscripture.servantsoftheword.org/readings/2017/oct1htm
