EPISTLE: I Timothy 2:1-7 -TIMOTHY, my son, first of all, then, I urge that supplications, prayers, intercessions, and thanksgivings be made for all men, for kings and all who are in high positions, that we may lead a quiet and peaceable life, godly and respectful in every way. This is good, and it is acceptable in the sight of God our Savior, who desires all men to be saved and to come to the knowledge of the truth. For there is one God, and there is one mediator between God and men, the man Christ Jesus, who gave himself as a ransom for all, the testimony to which was borne at the proper time. For this I was appointed a preacher and apostle (I am telling the truth, I am not lying), a teacher of the Gentiles in faith and truth.
GOSPEL: Luke 4:16-22 At that time, Jesus came to Nazareth, where he had been brought up; and he went to the synagogue, as his custom was on the Sabbath day. And he stood up to read; and there was given to him the book of the prophet Isaiah. Jesus opened the book and found the place where it was written, The Spirit of the Lord is upon me, because he has anointed me to preach good news to the poor and to heal the broken hearted. He has sent me to proclaim release the captives and recovering of sight to the blind, to set at liberty those who are oppressed, to proclaim the acceptable year of the Lord. And Jesus closed the book, and gave it back to the attendant, and sat down; and the eyes of all in the synagogue were fixed on him. And he began to say to them, Today this scripture has been fulfilled in your hearing. An all spoke well of him, and wondered at the gracious words which proceeded out of his mouth. The stone being sealed by the Jews, and thy pure body being guarded by the soldiers, thou didst rise on the third day, O Savior, granting life to the world. Wherefore, the heavenly powers acclaimed thee, O Giver of life, crying, Glory to thy Resurrection, O Christ! Glory to thy kingdom! Glory to thy gracious providence, O thou only Lover of mankind. O thou creator of the whole universe, who didst appoint times by thine own power, bless the crown of this year with thy goodness, O Lord. Preserve in safety thy kings and thy city, by the intercessions of the Theotokos, and save us. For patience thou hast become a pillar, and the ancient fathers thou hast equalled and rivaled. Thou hast rivaled Job in sufferings, Joseph in temptations, and the life of the incorporals, while yet thou wast in the flesh. Therefore, O our righteous Father Simeon, intercede with Christ God to save our souls. Thy work of justice did reveal Thee to Thy community as a Canon of faith. The likeness of humility and the teacher of abstinence. O, Thou Father and great Bishop Nicholas. Wherefore by humility thou didst achieve exaltation, and by Thy meekness wealth, intercede therefore, intercede with Christ that He will save our souls. O God of all, verily transcendent in essence, Creator of the ages and their Master, bless the cycle of this year, saving by thy boundless mercy, O compassionate One, all those who worship only thee, O Master, and who cry unto thee in fear, saying, Grant to all, O Saviour, a fertile year..

"Remember us, O Lord, when Thou comest into Thy Kingdom" By: Metropolitan Anthony of Sourozh The more deeply we live in the Holy Liturgy or according to circumstances that make us more perceptive of its words, the more widely it unfolds before us, acquiring a greater depth revealing to us things both human and divine. How often have we heard at the beginning of the Beatitudes the words "Remember us, O Lord, when Thou comest into Thy Kingdom!" in the glory of Thy Kingship... And these words sound so natural and simple. And yet, if we imagine for one moment that when the Lord Jesus Christ comes in glory, having conquered for us and for God, overcome all evil, and made this world into His Kingdom of love, of holiness, of perfect beauty that one of us could be forgotten: what would happen to us? Forgotten of God... It is only because we are remembered that we exist, that we live! It is only because He remembers us even when w e forget ourselves and one another that we continue to be sustained by the power of life which is His, by His blessing, by His sacrificial love... How wonderful it is to think that we are secure in God's all-remembrance, even when people forget us! And it happens, it happens: I remember a dark day when I was with a family, and the door opened, and a man who had been five years in the war and was thought to be dead, walked in; his wife looked at him and said "You are alive? We thought you were dead!"... And these words meant, "we counted on your death, because once you were dead, life had begun anew, in a new manner; I had met other people, I had married another man; you have come and you should not have come, you should have remained dead"... Can you imagine what this man felt? And can you imagine what would happen to anyone of us, however sinful, if, standing before God we saw that He did not remember our name, our face, our existence... And how wonderfully inspiring it is to think that even if the whole world should forget us there is One Who will never, never forget: it is the Lord Jesus Christ, it is God One in the Trinity, God Who is Love... Think of what happened in last week's Gospel (Matthew 14:22-34): Peter, together with the other disciples, saw Christ as a phantom, as a ghost walking on the waters, he was filled with terror: a ghost! And they all cried out in fear. And Christ said "Fear not! It is I!"... They were tossed by the sea, as we are tossed by the circumstances of our life, by the storms that arise within us. But when they heard the voice of Christ, Peter said, "Let me come unto Thee, walking on the waters." He knew it was impossible, humanly speaking, but it was possible because all things are possible to God and in God... And Christ said "Come!"... And Peter left the frail security of the skiff in which he was with the other disciples, and began to walk; and suddenly he looked at the sea instead of looking at Christ, he looked at the storm instead of looking at Him Who is the Lord of the storm, as He is the Prince of Peace. And because he remembered himself and the storm, he began to drown; and that very moment when he had lost sight of God, he cried "Help!", and Christ took him by the hand and brought him to shore. Here again we see that even at moments when we are carried away by our fears, by our doubts, carried away by the storm that rages within or around us, there is One Who remembers in love, in compassion, in an understanding that goes beyond our own understanding. Because He has plumbed all the depths of human frailty and has carried all the weight of human sin, He can say "Fear not!" and take us by the hand and save us. Let us think for a moment of what that means: to be remembered, and what it means to all of us, each of us that there should be people who remember us, for whom we exist, for whom we matter. A French writer has said: To say to a person "I love you" is tantamount to saying "you shall never die". Because it is a supreme affirmation of this person, a person who is thus affirmed, cannot fall out of eternity, of God's eternity, because all love is of God. How wonderful that salvation is offered and given, how wonderful that we may be partakers of this gift, granting it to others by our love and by our eternal remembrance. Amen.
جاورجيوس مطران جبيل والبترون وما يليهما )جبل لبنان( -------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Attention Teen SOYO Are you are between the ages of 13-19? Dear Parishioners, I wanted to personally remind each and every one of you about our second photo session. It will take place in the church on September 17 th through the 21 st. These portrait pictures will be taken for all parishioners and they will be published in our 75 th anniversary Book. I m reaching out to all of you who haven t had chance to take a picture of yourself and of your family in our first session in July, now is the time register and take that memorable photo. To refresh your memory and to be clear, you do not pay anything to take your photo. You will actually get a free 8 x10 portrait, a free commemorative 75 th anniversary book were you will see the pictures posted. I can tell you from first hand experience that the process is painless. Me and my family completed our photo shoot and it took less than half an hour. Due to our busy schedules, we do not have many opportunities to get together for a professional photo shoot. This gave us the perfect excuse. The pictures came out great, and I cannot wait to put them up in our home. Many of you either have taken pictures for the 50 th anniversary book, our last milestone celebration in 1988, or have seen the book in the church in the last month or two. You have seen people who got older, married, kids that have grown up and memorable faces that are no longer with us in this world. It s our duty to keep the history of our beloved St. Nicholas alive with all the generations that came and gone. It is a great feeling to be able to see the new and old member in one book for many years to come I came across many people of our parish, who took their family pictures in 1988, many of the little ones in these pictures are married and have little ones of their own now. I m sure that the children in the 50 th anniversary book now appreciate seeing the memories in these old photos as they now share the stories with their own children. I m also sure that they would want to have their young ones appreciate the moment when they look back at the book 25 years from now. So help the young people of today celebrate this moment by allowing them to share their pictures with their own kids in the future. My last point I would like to make, is that Life Touch, the company doing the photo shoots is producing the book for us for free as long as we do 200 photo shoots. We are currently at less than half this number. By not reaching this number it puts us in a great disadvantage to budget for the event and activities surrounding the 75 th anniversary. Please look at doing this as a duty to your church and committee members as now is the only chance that we all have to participate to have a successful book. So, you, your family and all those who where part of St. Nicholas at one time or another, please come out and help us accomplish this magnificent milestone of 75 th year Please login and register or see us at church every Sunday.
