CONNECTIONS To put it bluntly, my purpose for being here was always to get fired. And it looks like that day will soon be upon us. As an interim minister, my task has been to attend to the needs of the congregation, assist with bridging between the pastor who served before me and the one who is to follow and to bring a greater awareness of our calling as a church and the particular talents we have to share. Now, we will have the necessary challenge of saying goodbye, assessing where we are and begin the preparation to welcome Pastor Scott and his wife, Lisa. I, for one, wish to extend a very warm welcome to both of them and to share the secret with them that they are about to have the experience of a lifetime. My date of departure will be the end of May (right as Muskie season begins). Two months should give us opportunity to say our goodbyes and to see our southern snowbirds return from the land of sun and fun. I would have been disappointed to leave before seeing them one last time. The whole family will be back together and we will be able to wish each other well as we go our separate ways. You have been so kind to me as the time of transition approaches. You have called, stopped by the office, sent cards and letters and generally expressed your appreciation for the time we have shared together. I couldn t be more touched by your generosity. But I do want you to know how mutual the feeling is. I can t imagine my career being any more fulfilling had I not been in Boulder Junction. In more ways than I can tell you, this has been a crowning moment in my pastoral journey. Thank you. So, here s what I m thinking: ministers are like conductors of the orchestra. It s important to have someone keep proper time, lend creative interpretation to the musical score and provide support to each musician in order to play their best. But imagine, if all we had were a conductor and no musicians. It would be a very silent orchestra indeed. What good is it to give direction to the orchestra if no one plays? It would be like talking about faith without ever living it. What s the purpose? Paul reminds the Corinthian church and us as well that You are the body of Christ, and each one of you is a part of it (I Cor. 12: 27). He goes on to talk about the various parts of the body and how each is as important as another. The message is that while ministers are important, ministers are not the church. We all are. And we function best, just like a healthy body or a beautiful orchestra, when we all play our part. In the past year, if you have discovered something wonderful about the music this church makes together then by all means embrace it, nurture it and give thanks that God has so richly blessed us to be a blessing. It s the real reason for our collective calling and the purpose of our lives - minister and members all. The truth is that I will miss the magical northwoods and you very deeply. I have enjoyed being a part of Community Church and will hold you in my prayers for ever. But for now, we still have work to do and God s love to celebrate. Let s go have some fun. Privileged to be a part of you, Jim

Meet Our New Members Bonnie and Bill Spear We've owned a home in Boulder Junction since we were married in 1985. We have two children, Sara and Ben. In 1990 we moved to Wausau. We were able to keep our property and in 2014 bulldozed our cabin and built a retirement home. We enjoy the outdoors every season by golfing, biking, skiing, snowshoeing, hiking, and boating. We also are avid bridge players. Pastoral Search Committee Update Lots has happened in the past month or so. A call letter was mailed to Pastor Scott Jorgenson on March 21, which he received on March 28. We received his written response accepting the call on April 3. Since most of our communication was by email and phone, the official documents seemed to take forever to get from place to place, but the bottom line is that we have our new pastor! The official start date is June 1. Pastor Scott will preach on Sunday, June 3. There will be an installation service on June 10, conducted by Rev. Peter Sjoblom from the Central Conference of the Evangelical Covenant Church, where Pastor Scott holds his ordination. Pastor Jim's final service will be May 27, with an ice cream social planned afterwards to celebrate his time with us. We hope you will mark your calendars with these three important dates. The duties of the Pastoral Search Committee have been completed. We are so grateful for your prayers and support over the past nine months. It has been a privilege for all of us to serve in this way. We received a nice thank you letter from the Tri County Abused Women's Center for all of the Christmas donations given to help support their shelter. WCC thanks everyone who supported this program.

Christian Education / Youth As scripture declares and our hearts rejoice, the tomb of our Lord and Savior Jesus is empty! We can rise to new life in Him as well, as the kids experienced through their resurrection garden lessons. Despite our long winter in Boulder Junction this year, the gardens were able to flourish and grow, just as we do when we live for Jesus! Hallelujah! Upcoming C.E. events Please watch bulletin for additional details 5/20 Confirmation Sunday 5/30 Y.E.S. concludes for this academic year. Potluck that evening as well! 2018 Generations of Growth If you ve been following the newsletters, you have seen that C.E. is focusing on PRAY-ing, CONNECT-ing, and SHARE-ing to help us grow across all generations. Without a doubt this could, and should, be seen as a challenge for each and every one of us to step outside of our comfort zone. We are to declare our faith in God and share the love of Jesus to all, especially our youth. Psalm 145:4 (NLT) Let each generation tell its children of your mighty acts; let them proclaim your power. I m wondering if you have considered how you might meet this challenge. Have you prayed specifically for the youth of our church? Have you created an opportunity to connect with someone who you typically might not, sharing your faith and love for the Lord? Below are a few examples of how this is beginning to happen. Recently a wonderful Christian lady invited several of the young kids in our church over to her home for an afternoon. She taught them about baking, crafting, and even took them sledding in the April snow! What a trooper! They genuinely enjoyed their time together but also had cool creations and yummy treats to share. What a beautiful time they had! There also is a great group of seasoned Christian men who have committed themselves to sharing their faith to the young men in the church. In addition to teaching regular lessons designed for this age group, they are eager to share and explore their hobbies and build life skills together as well. Without a doubt, this is the beginning of incredible relationships that will be formed and sustained through their efforts. In a nutshell, these examples are some of the most wonderful things we can do for our youth and each other. Specifically PRAY, strategically CONNECT, and continually SHARE your time, talents, and treasures with others, especially our youth. Remember EVERY EFFORT MATTERS!!! I look forward to sharing more next month about how YOU are making this happen!
