10/08/2015 Church Conference Pastor s Report Our Journey Over The Last Year I praise God for the continued fruitfulness of the many ministries of Northlawn United Methodist Church during the past year. I highlight a few that stood out. Altar Prayer Team A team of 9 people and myself, spent 8 weeks learning about and practicing th prayer. On Sunday April 26 we began our ministry. Every Sunday directly after worship an Altar Prayer Team is stationed in the front of the sanctuary off to one side to pray for anyone who would like to receive prayer. We average 2 people prayed for each week. The team consists of persons ranging from high school age to retirement. Reaching Out To Our Neighborhood - Our Movie Nights have continue to grow in attendance. - We sponsor the YMCA Veggie Van every Wednesday which makes available local produce and products at reasonable prices. - We have become a voting polling location for elections - Our Web Site has been transformed into a dynamic, informative, and appealing site Vital Church Initiative A team of 14 persons aging from high school age to retirement age has excitedly stepped into Phase 1 of Vital Church Initiative. Worship Our Worship Team continued to discern how we could best fulfill our purpose of worship, Providing a life-changing experience of God's presence, for every worship; fulfilling our purpose for both our existing congregation and those in our neighborhood not yet here. Our Lenten worship series, Lament: Journey Into New Life, offered experiential worship components which helped enable worshipers from a broad spectrum of ages and life experiences to connect with God in deeply meaningful ways. Medical Leave The congregation was wonderfully supportive in healing ways during my medical leave. The staff and leadership stepped up to ensure we continued to live out our mission. Our Journey Ahead I look forward to the coming year with excitement to see how God works in and through each of us as we strive to better be the Good News of Jesus Christ to our neighborhood and the world. There are two areas in particular which will help enable us to be all God intends us to be. Vital Church Initiative As we move forward through this process, I am excited about how it, fueled by the Holy Spirit, will provide wisdom, passion and leadership for our congregation as we strive to more fruitfully live out God s mission for us. Communication Taking intentional steps to improve communication between leadership and the congregation, within the congregation, and to our neighborhood will help bring unity to us and our message of the Good News. Our upcoming Worship Discussion Groups are an example of this.
