28th Sunday In Ordinary Time October 14, 2018 Reflections for the 28th Sunday in Ordinary Time What must I do to inherit eternal life is a question each one of us should often ask ourselves. Please notice that Jesus does not condemn wealth but does ask how is the wealth being used to benefit others. Jesus saw wealth as a responsibility to use to the best for others. Many people suggest that this is one of the saddest stories in Sacred Scripture. How many people or organizations though are dominated by their quest for the material or worldly possessions? Some people have a bulldozer approach to life and relationships as opposed to a mentoring approach? Are we patient enough with people? Do we share what we have in terms of time, talent and treasures including with the Church? Many do not see a need to do that. The Lord Jesus shows how much He respects all people. Eternal life is a gift from God and respecting and obeying the commandments is only the beginning. Today s readings are all about how Jesus taught by word and example showing that all men and women should be valued more than possessions. How do we use what we have to strengthen our commitments and help others to grow in love and respect for all? Putting Jesus first in our lives gives us an ability to keep this concern in perspective. Do we take care of each other? Are we grateful for all the ways that God blesses us each day? October is the month of the Rosary and a month devoted to Pro-Life. During October we consider in a special way the role of Mary our Blessed Mother as a model of faith, love, humility and obedience to God s will in the quest of each of us for eternal salvation. Air fare, hotel accommodations, itinerary charges, guided tours, luxury coach, meals, gratuities for one low price of $3095.00 double occupancy (bring a friend to room with) Start Lent, 2019 with a Holy Pilgrimage and daily Mass in Ireland. For more information and application see Deacon Tom. Cead mille failte! OUR STMARY/STBERNADETTE COLLABORATIVE As we know, St. Mary s and St. Bernadette s became a Collaborative this summer on June 1 st with Fr. Phil McGaugh as our collaborative Pastor. Our collaborative is part of phase seven. A Collaborative is one, two or three parishes who share a Pastor, a Pastoral Team, a Collaborative Pastoral Council and a local Pastoral Plan. At the same time each parish maintains their own identity, assets and obligations, buildings including the Church and has its own Parish Finance Council. In the last six years, experience has taught much about this process of collaboration called, Disciples in Mission. We strongly encourage council members, staff members, all parish volunteers in ministry and all interested parishioners to attend three workshops offered as formation for Disciples in Mission. It is recommended to attend them in the order listed: Forming Disciples, Forming Leaders and Forming Collaboratives. All three workshops are open to the public. They are free to participants from within the Archdiocese of Boston! To see the schedule for each workshop and to register please go to: www.disciplesinmission.com. 4
