ST. TERESA of AVILA STUDENT CENTER PAGE 2 1511 Laporte Ave. Valparaiso, IN 46383 Fr. Chris Corner Dear friends in the Lord, I don t know where the time is going but we are already beginning Spring Break for Valparaiso University. Each year we like to offer a mission trip for our students so that they can put their faith into action by serving those who are in need. This year we are offering two mission trips; one for each week of Spring Break. The first trip was organized by Tara Beere, our Social Justice Peer Minister. She researched all sorts of different locations and experiences, and decided on Des Moines, Iowa. We will be working with an organization by the name of Christ for the City International. This will be a unique experience because it is considered an Urban Plunge. Each day of the mission trip will be a different experience with soup kitchens, homeless shelters, and the like. I am really excited for this because it will be a great opportunity for our students to serve those who are in need, but also to discover their ability to serve others outside their comfort zone, discover God s call for their lives, and have a lifechanging impact within that community. The second trip was organized by Maggie Grevas, one of our FOCUS missionaries. She often leads international mission trips, but this year she decided to keep it domestic. A completely different set of students will be traveling to Omaha, Nebraska where they will be serving on an Indian Reservation. Our students will learn about the beauty of the Native American culture through hands-on experience with people of the Winnebago and Omaha tribes. They will be working intensely with Hope of the Poor where they will reach out in classrooms, spend time with kids in the village, serve the needs of the village elders, perform various tasks around the school and church, and even serve as guest presenters for a Lenten Parish Mission. I will be traveling and serving with each of these groups. I am going to leave right after the 11 AM Mass on Sunday, March 4, drive to Des Moines, and serve for the week with the first group. That mission trip ends on the morning of Friday, March 9 and I will make my way to Omaha Worship Schedule Monday, March 5 5:15pm Tuesday, March 6 Wednesday, March 7 5:15pm Thursday, March 8 Friday, March 9 12:30pm Saturday, March 10 4:00pm Sunday, March 11 11:00am 9:00pm Wednesday Saturday By: Community Daniel Sacco By: Kathy Ricke Prayers for Fr. What is amazing race? It's a race around Valpo where competing teams of college students complete fun challenges. The winning team ultimately wins a cash prize and serious bragging rights. We are looking for drivers and homes to host challenges. This is an event that many college students look forward to every year, largely because of the fun they have with YOU, the community. The race takes place on Saturday, May 5th from 6-9pm. This is a great way to meet college students, get involved, and have a blast at the same time! Please email Katie Hamer at katherine.hamer@valpo.edu if you are interested in helping by driving or hosting a challenge at your home. Euchre Night is BACK!
