12-02-2018 PARISH LIFE Page 3 TODAY S READINGS First Reading Second Reading Gospel Reading Jeremiah 33:14-16 1Thessalonians 3:12-4:2 Luke 21:25-28, 34-36 Dear Brothers & Sisters in Christ: A Message from Father Don Today s Gospel Reading may seem like a downer especially among all the festive decorations going up and the joy of the season beginning to appear. Just as we are beginning the new liturgical year, we hear Jesus reminders to be vigilant and pray. Advent is the preparation of Jesus final coming. Jesus, the just one, who will judge us in the final days of human history, wants us to be able to stand up like true Christians when that time comes. Jesus does not want us to be afraid at the time of judgement. He wants us to stand and raise our heads. He wants us to greet him as our ransomer, for it is He who will lead us from captivity. This week I ask you to spend some time quietly reflecting on today s passage. Decide how, on this first day of Advent, you will show that you have heard Jesus words. Advent teaches us the end of the world is always seen in the light of the death and resurrection of Christ. As darkness looms, Christ comes with new light. During the season of Advent, we learn to face the darkness and seek growth through it. We have the promise of Christ s light. Together with your family determine how you can keep vigil during Advent by becoming more prayerful and watchful. 12-02-2018 PARISH LIFE Page 4 WE DID IT!! This past spring, an anonymous donor created a challenge to help with our Building Fund for the new Parish Life Center. This generous parishioner agreed to donate $150,000 to the Building Fund if we could match his amount and raise an additional $150,000. We are so happy to report that we have reached the goal of the challenge! Thank you so much to all those parishioners who answered our call and donated to this fund. We are extremely blessed to have such caring and giving people in our parish. A huge thank you goes to our anonymous donor who created this challenge and who donated so generously. Our St. Rita Marriage Ministry will not meet in December. We will resume meeting on January 19, 2019 at 7pm in the Faith House. Our best wishes for a very Merry Christmas & a Happy New Year! 4
