THE FESTIVAL CONVENTION made by...a God drawn to our weakness For ye see your calling, brethren, how that not many wise men after the flesh, not many mighty, not many noble, are called: But God hath chosen the foolish things of the world to confound the wise; and God hath chosen the weak things of the world to confound the things which are mighty; And base things of the world, and things which are despised, hath God chosen, yea, and things which are not, to bring to nought things that are: That no flesh should glory in his presence. 1 Cor 1:26-29 www.thefestivalnigeria.com Clearly, God detests the boast of human flesh and pride. That was the conclusion of Pauls' discuss about the manner of our calling in God. The issue thus wasn't and has never been the wisdom or wealth of man for God does call some wealthy, some noble, some strong Observe that he said 'how that not many wise men after the flesh, not many mighty, not many noble, are called In essence, some wise, some noble, some mighty were called. As such, God called both the weak and strong, wise and foolish. The criteria is more of a mental disposition than a state in life. If God finds that disposition in the wealthy, that's His choice. If He finds it in the poor, that again will be His choice. Their wealth or otherwise notwithstanding. What disposition do we refer to here? The acknowledgment that you need God. It's a deep sense of dependence on the mercy of God as against your human abilities. It's the surrender of human pride and confidence to the invisible, unseen hand of God as sovereign in the affairs of men. Little wonder David was Gods choice. He perfectly understood this fact.
He delighteth not in the strength of the horse: he taketh not pleasure in the legs of a man. The Lord taketh pleasure in them that fear him, in those that hope in his mercy. Psalm 147:10-11 The Lord is nigh unto them that are of a broken heart; and saveth such as be of a contrite spirit. Psalm 34:8 Jesus expressed same sentiments in His earth work. Then answered Jesus and said unto them, Verily, verily, I say unto you, The Son can do nothing of himself, but what he seeth the Father do: for what things soever he doeth, these also doeth the Son likewise. I can of mine own self do nothing: as I hear, I judge: and my judgment is just; because I seek not mine own will, but the will of the Father which hath sent me. John 5:19,30 Remember what Paul said: So then it is not of him that willeth, nor of him that runneth, but of God that sheweth mercy. Romans 9:16 If you look through life, it becomes evident that the race is not to the swift nor the battle to the strong. This is the curse of the talented. The most talented aren't usually the most successful. The most creative aren't usually the best paid. The most knowledgeable aren't usually the most prosperous. Usually, the 'talented' fellow feels he knows better, can do better yet life seems to always treat him unfairly. Many of such folks then become critical of those who are doing well in life. What they fail to realize Is that there is an unseen hand that governs in the affairs of men, to the intent that the living may know that the most High ruleth in the kingdom of men, and giveth it to whomsoever he will, and setteth up over it the basest of men Daniel 4:17 AYO AJANI President, TribePetra World pastorayoajani@yahoo.co.uk God rules in the affairs of men, and he sets up the 'basest' of men over it. The word translated 'basest' here means, low, meek, lowly. You wonder why that seemingly untalented fellow is Gods choice? His Heart. He has nothing to put his reliance and confidence in but in the Mercy of God for no flesh shall glory in His presence. In Philippians 3:3, Paul said For we are the circumcision, which worship God in the spirit, and rejoice in Christ Jesus, and have no confidence in the flesh. Do your best to never put your confidence in your abilities. Hope in the mercy of God. God is drawn to weakness! And he said unto me, My grace is sufficient for thee: for my strength is made perfect in weakness. Most gladly therefore will I rather glory in my infirmities, that the power of Christ may rest upon me for when I am weak, then am I strong. 2 Cor 12:9-10 www.thefestivalnigeria.com
