THE MESSENGER APRIL 2016 PASTOR S WORD When Christ told Peter of his coming denial, Peter was quick to disagree: Lord, even if all of the others desert you, I will never desert you! But, Jesus knew the truth. Peter would deny having any connection with Jesus, not once, but three times. STAFF Pastor Paul Ihlenfeld Musician Charmaine Siagian CHURCH COUNCIL OFFICERS President Vice President Lori Link Treasurer Scott Bruni Assistant Treasurer Sondra Swessel Secretary Susan Kolberg-Gonzalez COMMITTEE CHAIRPERSONS Building & Grounds Bobbe & Roger Rybak Christian Education Congregational Life Joan Swessel Evangelism Bobbe Rybak Social Ministry Stewardship Worship & Music Dick Beierle CHILDREN S EDUCATION Sunday School Superintendent Sondra Swessel. Christ s Kids Choir Director Joan Swessel How easily even the best of God s people can have the rug pulled out from under their best intentions! The encouraging message of the resurrection is that God never gives up on us! Even before his death, Jesus said nothing but friendly words of encouragement to Peter: I have prayed for you Simon, that your faith may not fail. And when you have turned back, strengthen your brothers. God takes both our weaknesses and failures and turns them into springboards that gently draw us back to himself and his unending gifts of mercy and grace, mercy and grace! Just as Jesus was totally committed to Peter, so he is totally committed to each of us. He has known our failures even before we ve had them, but loves us no less, and has his mercy and grace waiting to give us the resurrection power we need to bounce back from our failures with confidence, hope and a deepened partnership with him. Imagine Peter s delight as Jesus stepped into the upper room with his greeting of friendship and peace! May our experience of Christ s resurrected presence in the upper rooms of our hearts fill us also with delight and incline us also to turn back to strengthen one another. HAPPY EASTER! Pastor Paul.

THE MESSENGER APRIL 2016 PAGE 2 Transforming ordinary people into extraordinarily, loving friends Pastor Kristin Nielsen, of the Greater Milwaukee Synod office, is scheduled to attend our April 14 th.council meeting in order to talk to us about the Pastor Call process. The purpose of Pastor Kristin s visit is to ensure that we at CTV understand the mechanics and flow of our posting of the Ministry Site Profile, which is the document that our MET team worked on so diligently last year. We will invite Pat Foy and Carolyn Ruud to be present also as they are non-council members of the call committee. Holy Cross had decided to no longer rent our space and will utilize the chapel on the campus of Carrol College. I had an opportunity to speak with Father Pat several weeks ago to let him know how grateful we were to have their congregation use our worship space and how unfortunate it was that our worship schedules do not permit the use of space for Sunday School. He likewise told me that they have been most satisfied with the arrangements and the welcoming reception by everyone at CTV. In addition to the call process, I would like to concentrate on the following areas this year: Building & Land Appraisal Small Group Meetings & Workshops Evangelism Activities & Programs Congregation Sharing Possibilities Flock of Three Joint Activities Enhanced Stewardship Programs Respectfully submitted, Embodying the Way, the Truth and the Life of Christ for the enjoyment and consumption of all people

THE MESSENGER APRIL 2016 PAGE 3 ANNIVERSARY AND BIRTHDAY GREETINGS: Our best wishes to those celebrating birthdays and anniversaries in April. What a great time for ALL members to re-commit to attending the Sunday service each week. We are looking forward to a springing of new life at C.T.V. Let s lift our hearts in thankfulness for the sacrifice of Jesus. When He asks, Could you not watch with me one hour? let our answer be YES!!! Building and Grounds It s that time of year again. Please watch the Bulletin for opportunities to help with Spring cleaning, both inside and out. We will set a day in late April to take off the storms and wash the windows to let some sun and fresh air in. There has been much refinishing and repair to the window frames, so the job should be fairly quick. We will need some extra help as Roger will be limited in his participation this year. Thanks in advance. REMEMBER; Going to church doesn t make you a Christian any more than standing in your garage makes you a car..
